Converting a laptop mobo to PC/Tablet
I have a Alienware M15 R3 laptop mobo, my intention was to make a new enclosure and possibly add a screen but wanted to use a touch screen to make a gaming tablet with the intention of playing games at a friends house.

Mobo Spec:

Intel Core i9-10980HK

32GB RAM ( Unknown speed and its soldered -_-)

NVIDIA GeForce RTX2080 Super N18E-G3R-A1

I did not own the Alienware laptop, I bought the board working from ebay. I bought a new power jack, daughter board (wifi) and a power button.

at first it gave me a 3,1 error = CMOS
then a 2,7 error = display failure

I have manged to get it to boot but no display (HDMI or mini DP), is it dell specific that it wont display without a EDP plugged in as that is what I keep reading when googling.

I've Woking on desktops and laptops and fancied a project/ challenge after finishing this I was hoping to move on to better hardware on a laptop mobo.

any advice or help is welcome.

Alienware will not work without a real monitor connected.....
don't bother with laptop mobos if you don't know how to solder
especially Alienware which I've heard are full of proprietary junk almost as bad as Apple

you will also need good cooling solution for that mobo
despite them being laptop cpus and gpu

Cooling is a concern, I need to add a fan or two but need to find a power source. didn't want to run it off USB as it seems janky/getto.

It has been a faf getting everything I need to get it to run but I'm nearly there it just the enclosure now which I was going to 3D print and this is just a test I am hoping to move to better hardware after. Not as a tablet but a mini PC

there are great USB fans in 120mm size....read reviews and make sure you got the power to run it like maybe a small wall wart just for the fan.....

oh and dont forget you can always use real 12volt fans with a left over wall wart 9volt power supply on a 12volt 120mm would do fine and not be crazy load
