My SAMSUNG SSD 990 pro 4TB randomly disconnects .. please help
greetings all .. hope someone can help me with this

i bought 2 Samsung 990 pros 4 TB from amazon back in november

my motherboard : ASUS STRIX MAXIUMS Z790

It was working fine with no issues and they are not even full or near full

all the sudden one of them " i guess " or both started to make weird errors randomly

the first and most common is : i try to play a game .. it gives me error trying to boot

the when i try to verify files i keep getting errors reading game files then suddenly

the game shows up like it was never installed

although i can still get into the SSD menus and check the games inside it and game still there but for some reason unable to be read from the SSD

TRIED everything i know ,, downloaded SAMSUNG MAGICIAN trying to update all firmware etc

changed both SSD locations .. moved games between them .. installed latest BIOS .. removed all overclocks

Did quick and full SSD checks using SAMSUNG MAGICIAN APP .. both SSDs seem fine with no issues

the only way to resolve this issue " TEMPORARY " and not always working is clean Restart of system

" i mean power off ... unplug .. wait few minutes .. restart "

and its not 100% guarentee to work .. how can i resolve this

i never had those issues before ... and i never faced those back when i used SAMSUNG 980 2TBs

whats going on here .. am i the only one facing this and how can i resolve it ..

appreciate everyone reading whole story and trying to give me guidence

Check if your SSD is properly installed. Otherwise, RMA for a replacement under warranty.

I have seen issues with all SSDs at random on Win7, 10, 11; where during VERY high and long writing processes; you lose access to Explorer as the drive is being so saturated at that time, it appears to be missing... waiting out the write process should solve the issue.

SSDs are so fast that when WinOS shows your copy or move process window is all done, it's actually not. You can keep an eye on this further by viewing the Reads/Writes of Drives via Task Manager > Performance tab

I wouldn't trust Magician to report errors. I had an SSD fail and Magician didn't report anything wrong with it, but when it was replaced, all the problems with the PC went away.

It's really difficult to say what was wrong, except operations seem to randomly slow down, sometimes never completing and just causing the PC to die. Other times things worked just fine. But, like I said, Magician reported that everything was good, even when Magician itself collapsed.

The engineer I spoke to about it seemed to think that it was possibly the controller chip on the SSD that was failing, which perhaps explained why Magician didn't report any errors.

Anyway, the drive failing was C: but it affected the operation of the entire PC, so it was difficult to tell that it was only C:

sata cables are garbage and will just die for no reason.....my OS 250 GB samsung i had since 2015 started blue screening with disconnects to the motherboard.....bad sata cable....that was over 3 years ago and the drive still works fine....im on it right now.....

for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles try another sata cable and see if it disconnects.....oh and if you got a open one switch sata ports on the mother......:possession:
Hmm yea OP is using M2 drives though :steamfacepalm:
maybe Samsung magically squeezed pcie 4.0 x4 into sata interface

any better alternatives .. coz i just removed it from my pc because some ppl say its hitting ram hard

m.2 (sata or nvme) drive or any kind of drive has nothing to do with ram

if the drive is disappearing, it more likely windows hiding empty drives
check disk management to see if its still there and partitioned and assigned a letter
and explorer properties and tick show empty drives

Well, mine got replaced with a 980 pro and it's been great ever since. But I do worry about how long it's going to last.

i dont think thats the case since at least at this very moment the SSD is working and its showing up normal ... BTW when the errors happen .. i cant Read or Write of Play games from the effected SSD .. BUT the SSD still showing up everywhere and i can even access its files BUT i cant move them or copy paste them or delete them ..
