What exactly can I install steamos on?
Is there anything I should look out for?

I look up the steamos page and it says it's not entirely optimal to install steamos onto a laptop. It's mainly meant for the steam deck and the rog rally S iirc. That if I were to install steam os onto a laptop then I should still keep windows on said laptop.

I installed Linux mint w/ cinnamon onto an old hand me down laptop and it's easy to use. But I have a 2nd hand me down laptop and I want to try out a different os on it to get used to it

I basically want to play my pc games as well as edit videos in an editing software (planning on using DaVinci resolve for that)

Can I do all that in steamos? Or would other os's be better suited for that, like Linux mint or POPos or something?

Any input would be appreciated

at one time steam os would run fine on pc hardware, but for now its still tuned for steam deck
its said to be migrating back toward pc hardware, but its still better to use linux and steam client

The Steam Deck.

You can look on YouTube for performance reviews of other Linux distros installed on the Steam Deck. Some have better performance than Steam OS, some do not. Sometimes it depends on the game.

If you have a spare laptop (like you say you do) why not just try SteamOS on it?
