Uninstalling the security update might cause some issues.
BTW - in Settings>Windows Update just 'Pause Updates' for 2 weeks, come back once a week and reset that to 2 weeks again.
kingston sata 6gb ssd 500gb
verbatim sata 6gb ssd 500gb
and...a sata 4tb hdd /5700 rpm made by HGST/bought used on amzon.de.
you have my data. my pc runs all day and night.
so:
how did you fail updating windows? please?
i dont want to be offensive.
thx for reading this. it is not an opinion...it was the truth.
cu.
Microsoft has confirmed (last i saw) that they're looking into this, and data CAN be lost when the drive disconnects.
That DOESN'T mean every drive will fail under these conditions, just that it has the POTENTIAL to do so. Phison drives have been having the finger pointed at, but that's most likely because of the larger pool of Phison drives. It's not exclusive to them though, and things from Corsair MP600's to Samsung 990's have been rumoured to suffer all the same.
Best course of action? I'd say delay the update and let MS fix it. Better that, than losing your holiday snaps, your modded Skyrim or your data workhorse simply because you chanced it.
If still on Win 10, Win 11 build 22H2 or Win 11 build 23H2 (24H2 is unaffected by it)... Type "winver" (without the quotes) under your run/search box on the menu bar to check your version.
It is a nightmare for gamers or those who download GBs of data (such as a game download) upon SSD (Solid State Drives). Your entire SSD drive might just disappear or become corrupted. Locked encryption if using Bitlocker too. Reset and recovery might not even work.
Microsoft will release a emergency out-of-band-update for it soon.
You could either update to the latest Win 11 build 24H2 or if you are on one of the affected OS pause your Windows updates (a few days or week - should be patched asap), then roll back KB5063875 from your Windows Update History (if already installed). Avoid downloading large amount of data or using the SSD over 60% load before the removal of that update or the emergency patch over it.
This was a previous issue addressed and resolved in the out-of-band (OOB) update KB5063875. Yet the new KB5063875 will overwrite that.
If already affected, instead try installing and using out-of-band (OOB) update 5066189:
https://support.microsoft.com/help/5066189
That is for Win 11 version 23H2 or 22H2.
For Win 10, use instead: Windows 10 KB5066188 (OS Builds 19044.6218 and 19045.6218) Out-of-band
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/august-19-2025-kb5066188-os-builds-19044-6218-and-19045-6218-out-of-band-decbec0f-fddb-4dc0-b91b-ed59001ce0d8
It's the same as before but a later KB version so won't be overwritten by the other patch. It supersedes previous updates of affected versions. It just doesn't contain the August 2025 security update, till they fix KB5063875.
people that can write software app's are less stoopid, than a lot steampowered.com users...why? them wrote software for users and not for me, only. so? windows is a tons of data software (5gb at least) and coders which are geniusses make software errors, too. thats it mainly. i guess for you: try a clean install of windows 11 and go offline. next: go to this website called WSUS Offline:
https://download.wsusoffline.net/
why:
on this website u can download a software to do any windows 11 update if yo want to.
so, why? the problem update can be excluded in case you need windows 11, but you must be offline to make the system secure. this should work. no one who works with windows 11 must be online.
thats the trick i suggest and if i am wrong, make friends with me in my steam friendship list and we can chat.
i hope this isnt offensive at all.
thank you.
with games getting larger it will find many problems when people try to install one or two using steam
if you remember gta5 takes over 100g of space for steam to install/update
which would murder one of the effected drives with the patch applied
Why do you speak of "Windows" as if there is only one OS, and not a number of OSes that vary (very) significantly in respective merits and drawbacks?
Not just drives, controllers. Other companies use Phison controllers in their NVMEs, Corsair for example.
Do you even know what you are talking about ?
https://www.techpowerup.com/340032/microsoft-windows-11-24h2-update-may-cause-ssd-failures
Yup.
Pausing is the best option IMHO.
Not for me, I installed KB5063878 several days ago and I can't uninstall it.
Speaking honestly I don't think this is a widespread issue. In addition to the Japanese guy there are quite a few reports about this. Maybe the conditions that trigger this aren't just "50GB+ write on a disk full at least 60%" but much more complex.
