how does someone manage to accidentally (or even on purpose) hit a computer with a sledgehammer and why

In 2009 I have putt it a blanket but didn't mind moving my desktop build out of the bedroom while I was drilling a whole on my wall for the new air conditioner. After hours working and finally cleaning the bedroom, late the night when I turned on the computer.....BOOM! I mean the video card simple poof...poof and sparkled and started to get on fire.

fans covered in smoke dont really cause problems, they still blow air just fine
smoke particles inside the fan can kill the bushing/bearing making it not spin freely

its when the smoke buildup sticks to pcb and eats through copper solder connections, and can conduct enough to cause electrical problems, shorts/opens/interference
makes repairing the boards nearly impossible

Yeah I've cleaned a few smokers PC's in my time, that sticky layer that holds all the gunk to stuff, time to crack the IPA out.

Last year I threw a perfectly working x670E motherboard in the bin thinking the PCI-E slot was dead and it turned out to be my montor after I spent £500 on a new X870E motherboard.

To this day I still can't believe i didn't try another display before throwing a whole motherboard in the bin.

plugging in a gpu with too low wattage psu so had to use 2 psus then gpu caught fire, actual flame on it

Not actual damage, but a few years ago the company I work at bought a few dozen computers. They were brought and installed by outsource IT guys. They stored the empty boxes in a room. A couple years later I was clearing the empty boxes and one of them wasn't empty. Not only did they not know how to keep track, nor did the person at my company. Total idiots. Actually, the same idiots that installed m.2 drives and didn't use the little screw in any of them. And kept the backup NAS sitting on top of the actual server. I warned but nobody listens to me anyway...

I used to make some side cash cleaning PC's you would't believe what a smoker with cats can do to a PC.. The owner complaint that his PC was overheating... the CPU fan couldn't even turn in the crap

At the school I was working as IT support one of the teachers ran over their school laptop with their car.

i hate these m2 ssds. i tried to change one of them and this stoopid ssd thing went broke, overbended. too small and too breakable. this sucks. now i have sata 3 6gb/s ssds only and my mind hasnt been blown....yet.
