What will you do when your favorite new releases force ray tracing that can't be disabled?
Some of you are skipping Indiana Jones because of this. But what happens with games that people will actually want to play?

Will you play Witcher 4 or GTA 6 if they force ray tracing?

I just won't buy it it or I will refund it, and I will let it flop the same way Concord flopped.

They need gamers more than gamers need them. Even if all the AAA studios disappeared overnight, indie studios would pick up the slack.

It was inevitable. Ray tracing has been out for a few years now. Sooner or later games were going to use it exclusively.

Does Doom have "forced Vulcan"

Does Cyberpunk have "forced DX12"

Does Unreal have "Forced OpenGL"

Are you new to PC gaming or something?

What did you do when you got your band new Riva TNT card home and the game you wanted to play needed Voodoo graphics?

RT is a garbage feature whose performance cost in no way justifies the visual change. It is obviously meant to make suckers upgrade and now they want to force it down our throats.

is PhysX forced yet? It is amazing feature, isn't it?
The same story with ray tracing.

Yeah I would. Why not? Sooner or later RTX will be the default and I already have a very much capable card.

My rule is simple:

Gaming is a hobby. I am not currently working as a software developer in the games industry.

If I cannot run a game with what I have, I won't buy it.

Why would I pay 70 for a game, then buy a GPU that costs over 1000 just to actually play it?

I got a better idea: I'll read a book instead. Those tend to be more entertaining than modern games anyway which are almost universally bloated, buggy, and full of terrible stories :steamhappy:

nothing wrong with that, just gonna upgrade for better gpu than 3090 coz it cannot do ray tracing properly.

Not unless games go back to being edgy and based. Right now we get DEI slop-fest trash.

GTA 6 is going to be terribly safe and Witcher 4 is going to be for the modern audience that doesn't exist.

"What will you do?" Probably something more meaningful like spend the money on my kids or do something cool to my ride.

These tech companies need to grow up and realize this overpriced garbage has no business in a normal person's life that actually owns property and pay bills and understands value.

I could literally get the best set of wheels and tires for my ride, along with other cool meaningful things like new speakers or whatever.... Or I could get a 5090.

There's no way I'm going to believe that these gpus are more valuable than a pristine set of wheels for my sports car? No way, the value simply isn't there anymore.

Your comparison doesn't work. PhysX was an Nvidia-only technology that only worked on Windows. Raytracing is open-source and all hardware vendors and operating systems support it.
