Frequent BSODs When Launching Fortnite – KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE / CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT
Hello,

I'm experiencing frequent BSODs when launching Fortnite, specifically with the error codes KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE or CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT. This issue occurs exclusively with Fortnite—no other games on my system trigger these crashes.

System Specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600

GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1660 Super

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (3200 MHz)

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

Updated Windows to the latest version

Updated GPU drivers

Updated CPU drivers

Updated BIOS to the latest version

Scanned for viruses/malware

Disabled XMP profile

Disabled third-party overlays (NVIDIA Overlay, RivaTuner)

Reinstalled and verified Fortnite files

Ran sfc /scannow

Used DISM tool to check and repair system integrity

Newly added RAM a few weeks ago but its compatable and it's stable in all other games, CPU also not overclocked and has good enough temp.

What could be the problem?

Doesn't Fortnite have EAC? You might want to uninstall and reinstall it.

where did you get the drivers from?
windows update only gives generic drivers

grab the correct ones from the mobo mfg site

this seems to be what's found searching Google for issue and the game, it's the likely suspect.

beyond that, didn't see OP mention checking for dx or runtime, missing/corrupt/outdated, which is about all I can think of atm.

that said, to bad the game doesn't have a forum to ask that type of stuff.

also noting, no mention of os, or mention of looking into the dump file for the error code numbers, which would help.

If OP is running an Insider Preview OS then it can definitely crash EAC.
turn on or off secure boot perhaps, but that is a looong shot
Well i am running Windows 10 as of right now, it worked about 2 weeks ago with the exact same settings, i have reinstalled EAC, i reinstalled my drivers with DDU, downloaded them from the nvidia website and amd for chipset/cpu and will get the error code numbers soon, can't test right now

AC or some bug checking or illegal (???) parameter in the kernel is causing the crash.

Or the Driver verifier fails for some reason.

check your windows folder for the minidump folder if there is one download windbg from microsoft store open one of the dumps in it then click the analyze! highlighted text and copy paste results here

if you know what you are doing you can set break points in windbg and can see live what happened during the crash

eac had a problem with discord?

Even if closed, the bsod still occures
Originally posted by Midnight Aurais:
it could possibly be that your discord is compromised why would the anticheat complain about it though

remove fortnite and use like revo unistaller free and unistall discord through it and let it check for remaining files use some common sense if there are system files do not include but if they are only about discord remove

https://www.revouninstaller.com/revo-uninstaller-free-download/

open file explorer and change the address to %temp% and enter delete everything that is in that temp folder do not worry temp is as the name implies temporary this folder exists so programs have a place to throw their trash in

if it gives error that a file is in use then ignore the remaining files it cannot delete it

once that is done download and install fortnite and launch the game if bsod is gone great if not then the error in windbg might now describe a different program as a culprit so analyze it again

if there is no bsod redownload discord from https://discord.com/ don't use the one you might have downloaded already better safe then sorry

also you seem to not be the only one having this issue it been going around near end of 2024 all of them have the same process discord in common you may need to use the browser version instead if this keeps happening it may be just a thing discord or easyanticheat has to fix

I've tested, it didnt work, uninstalled discord with revo, deleted temp files, first it came up with eac is not installed fixed that and then it crashed again in a Watchdog bsod, i've let that load for about half an hour and it was still on 0%, don't even have a minidump to further look into it because of that
just install your fortnite on different drive, not the system
Originally posted by Midnight Aurais:
if you can upload the last minidump file you had with the discord warning discord may not be the breaking point and instead is the last process in the chain this is why unfortunately you need to know how windbg works to set breakpoints so you can replicate the bsod crashpoint in the program

issue is i know the program just not that advanced into it that i can get that far reading through it i only know the basics

also there is a possibility you may have a kernel dump instead check your windows folder for memory.dmp files

from looking around on forums with the same error code you are receiving it can be a few issues

1. a privilege issue blocking anticheat access to files

2. defect ram you may have bought a new kit but were these problems still there with the old memory kit? ram is kinda like this it dies in the first 1 or 2 weeks or it last you years before failure type in startmenu "windows memory diagnostic" this test will last a while to complete so do it when you got time it checks the memory for errors

3. defect processor hope it is not this one the guy replaced his processor and the bsod was gone

why processor and memory because anticheat runs in memory if by any means corruption happens there anticheat wil stop the kernel same with processor if there is a issue kernel gets send a stop which results in bsod gotta love ring 0 anticheat XD

but my pc is stable in games...yeah does not mean it is stable in stress tests

because i do not know what is all on your system a fresh windows install might also solve the issue if there is a file that is triggering the anticheat

there is one last thing what version of windows 10 are you running because your build version is not up to date and yes easy anticheat can cause a fuzz over older windows 10 versions

if nothing of the troubleshooting steps work your left with someone figuring out the minidump

Well,
1. i kind of dont know on how to fix the privlege issues if its cause by that
2. defect ram, well maybe but i've had it the last like 5 months and as far as i can remember never had that issue with my old one
3. hope its really not that one, that would suck but i don't have my old one anymore

i've ran stress tests at least with cpu z for about an hour, it shot up to 100% usage, with about 90° temp. though had hwinfo open on my second display and when i started the game it went up to 92° at least that's what was last shown on the frozen screen

a fresh windows/upgrading to win 11 might be for now the easiest option, even though i don't want either but that's the only thing that's on my mind for fixing it

and last but not least, the memory dump i have is from the same date as the other one but still here it is:
