IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes don't mean anything.
A lot of people seem to judge movies based on their IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes scores but quite a lot of my favourite movies have lowish scores on those sites.
I'm a fan of shlocky 80's and 90's action and cop thrillers and i love Jean-Claude Van Damme especially his late 80's to mid 90's movies. His movies don't exactly have high scores.

Tonight i watched Shin Godzilla and it has 6.7 on IMDB but i thought it was pretty great.
Also some movies which people rave about i thought were just ok or not that good.

Shin Godzilla. Justice trippy as I would expect a Godzilla film from the guy who created neon Genesis evangelion would be.

I do not use reviews to judge what I watch. I have watched a lot of movies, and some of my favorites are absolute crap. I'm not fooling myself. But if I listened to reviews, I would not have seen the following.
Cyborg 2
Cyborg
Nemesis
Demonic toys
Puppet Master
Doll man
Dollman vs. Demonic toys
Puppet Master vs. Demonic toys
Redneck zombies
Razorback
No escape
Lightning Jack

And about a million more.

It's all right to see other people's opinions, but you never know until you watch.

Cyborg is a personal fave.
I know it isn't a good movie in the traditional sense but i still love it.

A bit like Steam reviews.

This too, but I think that's a general problem. Everywhere with some sort of a rating system, companies and influencer try to manipulate costumer to their own benefits.
It was better when IMDB allowed discussion about movies.
Supposedly there were too many "misogynists expressing their unwanted opinions" for it to continue.
So, now there is no discussion at all. Gotta love that free speech.

Reviews aren't meant to be taken as gospel, but there are movies that are objectively bad.
Oh yeah, cyborg is freaking awesome. I think that was my first real exposure to Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Reviews from critics tend to be more biased than reviews from regular joes. And remember, some people are so invested in a series that they'd use botting to manipulate the review system.

"Unwanted opinions"
Wouldn't it be lovely to live in a world where you only see/hear/read/watch things you only like?
I hate humans.

So objectively bad they're good?
I do like some movies which are so bad they're good but some movies are just bad.
Have you seen A Serbian Film?
I can't explain how that movie makes me feel other than i don't know why it exists and i never want to see it ever again.

Oh hell yeah, like The Bulk, The Room, and any Neil Breen movie for example.

Speaking of The Room, Tommy Wiseau is making a new movie lmao
...

And now I remember a Serbian film. I don't want to remember that. I'm going to go out in the garage and get a wire brush and try and scrub that out of my head.

I got excited for a minute, but now I'm thinking that he'll intentionally make a bad movie because of the success of The Room. So-good-it's-bad movies aren't good when they're made to be intentionally bad. Birdemic 2 is a good example of this.

It's a fine line.
I've seen so many low budget movies where they're bad because of lack of budget or experience but they have a charm which makes them fun.
If you're actually trying to make a bad movie then it ends up being lame.
Like those Giant Shark vs mega whatever movies and 8 legged freaks.
Also Sharknado.
It isn't funny.

I agree. Who Killed Captain Alex is very poorly made, but it has so much charm and heart behind it. It's just a bunch of people having fun and trying to make a movie because they want to. It's nice.

The second Sharknado as well as the others that came after it were intentionally trying to be bad because of the success that Sharknado 1 garnered for being bad. It's so lame.

Anyways, I don't want to veer too offtopic from the thread topic, so I'll leave it at that.

Even something like The Room or Samurai cop, they weren't trying to make a bad movie which is why they're so fun to watch.

Olympus has fallen and London has fallen come to mind.
I love those movies, they're awesome.
