yes, i have several people in my life i would be considering my best friends, and those in the past who at one point i would have considered this. friends and loved ones i would die for in an instant with no hesitation, if it were required of me.

who can say if they would do the same? i believe they would, but i would not wish for them to give their happiness for mine anyway.

I think i care more than some of those people, But it's sort of their loss if they aren't my best friend anymore because i can be quite loyal.

That's a bad way to think. If you think that way, you will one day hate a person because you thought you were their best friend and you saw otherwise, and end up feeling betrayed.

Just do right by people and don't lie, and make sure they're doing likewise to you and you'll be fine. That's all there is to it.

I know that feeling.

I did, twice I'd like to think, stabbed in the back both times.

In hindsight it works for some people, not for everyone. Now I just have more people, but no one super close and that's working out well.

Entering into relationships with people is generally ok until money and livelihoods are involved and at stake.

THEN it changes the tune of things, no matter how close you think the person was. If you can avoid working together or investing money together based on one or the other’s word, then chances are you have a friend for life.
