'Alien Earth' Is Awful
After being assured that it wasn't woke. (By people I trust.) I gave it a look.

Oh, my! It's as woke as it gets.

It's everything you can expect from Hollywood these days.
  • All the men are weak, stupid, or evil.
  • All the women are victims or bosses.
  • CGI sequences that would have looked better using scaled models.
  • Unrealistically diverse. (We're in Siam and there's just one Asian dude?)
  • Modern black rap music. Completely out of place. Does not fit with theme or story.
  • Hamfisted anti-capitalist messaging.
  • Racism allegories.
  • Anti-military and anti-police messaging.
  • Brand damaging ret-cons.
  • Poor writing.
  • Pointlessly long and boring scenes. (Which add nothing.)
Looks like they tore down 'The Orville' set for this.

There are small signs all over that indicate that. Note the height of the ceiling. (Not the best screenshot, but you should be able to see it.) Keep in mind the set was rebuilt.

Look carefully at the medical bay of TNG, Voyager, and Enterprise. You might note that the ceiling and layout are similar. Because it's the same room.

"10-forward" of TNG is the same cafeteria seen on Voyager.

You may also notice that the bridge of the Enterprise-E is remarkably similar to the bridge of Voyager. Again, not a coincidence.

Here's a guy explaining why it's so boring:

Anyway, I couldn't even get to the end of the first episode. I hated every second I was watching. 0/5

Thanks for the heads-up. I have been struggling with trying to watch Strange New Worlds and Alien Earth sounds much worse.

My experience with most all modern media. Its sad to see it happen.

I'm not surprised. I don't remember a single advertisement for it.
I'm from the UK and I don't know what its on.

Games have become nothing more than thinly disguised interactive movies because that's what people want. Many are more concerned with what their characters look like than gameplay, so studios don't bother much with gameplay. As a result, there are fewer and fewer fun games on the market. Lengthy and frequent cutscenes are boring but people want stories not games. Look no further than KCD2 and BG3.

Yes you play a whole 5 games a year and are a great voice on this.

I'm not actually talking about a game, but you have a good point.

There is most definitely a large sub-section of gamers that just want to watch a story. With minimal interaction. But I wouldn't say that represents BG3.

I feel like 'Alien Earth' is something far worse than that. It feels like "and then" storytelling. Pointless dialog followed by brief action sequence. Rinse and repeat. I cannot tell you anything about the setting. Other than "capitalism, racism, and sexism are bad". I already knew that. Could you please tell me a story about violent aliens invading earth?

everything modern has to have a soulless imitation of real societal issues

tool played in one of the episodes
Why do you intentionally misinterpret me? Does it make you giggle?

Yeah because it is Paramount Stage 9 in Hollywood, repurposed for different movies and shows.
Yes, I know this. Because that is what I was saying. That these sets are repurposed.

There's nothing wrong with Earth Federation ships looking like Earth Federation ships.
I didn't say anything like that.

Alien Earth isn't made by Paramount though, it's made by Disney.
Yes. And you know who owns 'The Orville' set? Oh, right, Disney.

I award you no points.

That's enough right there for a hard pass.

Star Trek The Original Series was packed full of societal issues of the time.

I was afraid so.

A general theme of Alien movies was always isolation and claustrophic settings.

The characters where always trapped somehow in confined spaces with no escape route from the Aliens (Ship, Station, Prison, Pyramid, etc.)

But when the alien ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan on the surface of planet earth, there are only 2 options left storywise:

Battle it out in the open or artificially create one isolated setting after the other.

Wich are both awful choices for an Alien franchise.

On a side note: SNOWPIERCER: ALIENS - that would be an awesome combo bringing something fresh to both franchises!

But handled it better. Minus the first kiss between a black lady and a white guy on screen. That was done a handful of years before The original Star Trek did it. But Star Trek the series overall is not perfect with dealing with social issues. But the ones they got right, are the best.

Modern Audience being pleased how a modern take on social issues is. Shows how blind they are and Naive into thinking they are the first too do it. When it was happening way back in the silent movie era up to the 2000's

Modern Audience has no clue
