for realistic well in mmorpg they look great, rpg depend, if it is from ubisoft, EA, playstation, xbox yeah i prefer to avoid
square enix are ok, capcom look great same with bandai namco, cant really tell for nintendo
No, you're not the only one. I much prefer the graphic style of a game like Borderlands over realism. No contest. One of the reasons I enjoy indie games is because of their beautiful artwork. Here are just a few examples, but there are many more of course.

Been playing a lot of 20+ year-old games these days and I like how devs had to use their imaginations to make up for what technology at the time lacked. The grainy look of armor on characters is Diablo II, or the first two Fallout games, and units in old RTS games like Starcraft or Age of Empires II.
Hyper-realism seems almost sterile and bland in comparison sometimes. I never enjoy the remakes/remasters as much as the original games. There are a few times when everything is crisp and seems like eye candy, but it's rare.
