Am I the only one who prefer the cartoon animation look in video games over near realistic they’re going for now?
I’m not sure if it’s nostalgia but games that looks more realistic and human by the day doesn’t sit right to me.

I very much prefer the 2000s-2015’ish era animation to stay that way.

As I get older, I find that I care less about the specific art style of a game than I do about whether the creators actually like that art style and approach it with genuine love and passion. I mostly play low-budget indie 2D games, but I'm also not going to complain about Hellblade or Clair Obscur.

square enix are ok, capcom look great same with bandai namco, cant really tell for nintendo

Stylized games almost always age better. It's why Nintendo stuff has always aged very well.

No, you're not the only one. I much prefer the graphic style of a game like Borderlands over realism. No contest. One of the reasons I enjoy indie games is because of their beautiful artwork. Here are just a few examples, but there are many more of course.

Art style will always triumph over graphical fidelity. I still prefer the Wind Waker (HD) over most modern, realistic graphics.
I really like different art styles in video games. Why do you think I got into Jak and Daxter?
did they make a life like Earth Worm Jim...
No, the goal of game graphics was to achieve photorealism to show what hardware is capable of. So basically the more realistic graphics in a game, the better. I share this opinion.

we can almost do anything visually.....

now we just have to make it happen in reality....

start trek medical treatment... instead of these archaic butchers..
Not sure if I'd say I prefer them, but there's definitely something hollow that I've been feeling with ultra-realistic graphics. Like everything is shiny and stands out so now nothing looks shiny or stands out. There's a lack of creativity or stylized artistic form in it too.

Been playing a lot of 20+ year-old games these days and I like how devs had to use their imaginations to make up for what technology at the time lacked. The grainy look of armor on characters is Diablo II, or the first two Fallout games, and units in old RTS games like Starcraft or Age of Empires II.

Hyper-realism seems almost sterile and bland in comparison sometimes. I never enjoy the remakes/remasters as much as the original games. There are a few times when everything is crisp and seems like eye candy, but it's rare.
Flash games will return one day
