SteamOS Linux Gaming Devices Beat Windows In Price, Performance, Battery/power, etc...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJXp3UYj50Q

Why do people even use Windows anymore?

It looks like it's worse at basically everything... price, gaming performance, and battery/power consumption...

Not to mention privacy..

it's over windowzers
Because it’s the best choice for PC. But of course there is no point reasoning with Linux fanbois they can’t accept that Linux isn’t the best. Not to mention that around 95% of steam users use Windows…
I love Linux and absolutely prefer it.
I'm on Windows so I can play PUBG, Nikke and Fortnite.
op learns about linux for the first time.

Not really, there are plenty of easy to use distros that are great for desktop PCs.

Tired old motto. Stop lying to yourself.

GNU/Linux may not run PUBG, but its open nature gives it 735783379532423 abilities that just aren't available on other OSs.

Well its motsly because of the default bias, Windows is pushed with every device you buy, is it true what OP says tho ? Cause last I remember using Linux it was a bit of a pain getting the games to run on it, it was like using console emulators, you had to wait till the game was working and then patches came and everything was pointless ;p
on most games that don't use crappy anticheats, you can just press "play" and it works. Proton is about as close to a miracle solution as it gets.

in 2020ish it wasn't so. Many games wouldn't launch without excessive tinkering until a new Proton dropped just for them.

It is way better now and most games do "just work"

Things have most certainly improved. I remember trying Proton when it first came out, and while it was better than running Steam under Wine, it still wasn't really able to replace Windows in the realm of gaming.

Since around 2022 or so pretty much every game that I've cared about just worked, and there was no reason for me to keep a Windows installation around anymore.

Which Linux is it you guys use ? I would love to try it then xD
Nobara is a great little distro that runs games with better FPS than a few other distros I've tried.

Just noting that this guy was involved in spamming the TF2 forums with hundreds of threads about killing windows support

personally, I use openSUSE Tumbleweed but anything fairly recent should work.

If you're interested, I've made a guide that can help you switch: https://april.nekoweb.org/guides/gnu_linux_beginners_guide/square_zero.html

With the asterisk...

*after initial configuration & setup

When you first install Linux you have to do some stuff in the terminal to get it working for gaming that you wouldn't have to do on Windows. It's not that hard or time-consuming but... yeah I mean it's not like you can just install Steam, games, and then run them without a little bit of initial configuration effort. That was my experience with Ubuntu as of last year anyway as a new Linux user.

Once you're done with that though, yeah it pretty much just works... I've been on Ubuntu since then and played lots of Steam games with basically no issues.

Maybe SteamOS is pre-configured to just work out of the box for gaming, idk. I've never used a Steam Deck personally so idk.

Nobara comes with Proton and Steam pre-installed.

Ubuntu isn't a primary gaming OS.
I've only used SteamOS due to having a Steam Deck. My next handheld will be a Windows based one. That's not to say the SteamOS is bad, it's just I grew up with Windows so know it well, and I have no interest in learning a new OS. For that reason alone, for me Windows is (and always will be) the better OS.
