I'm on Windows so I can play PUBG, Nikke and Fortnite.
GNU/Linux may not run PUBG, but its open nature gives it 735783379532423 abilities that just aren't available on other OSs.
It is way better now and most games do "just work"
Since around 2022 or so pretty much every game that I've cared about just worked, and there was no reason for me to keep a Windows installation around anymore.
If you're interested, I've made a guide that can help you switch: https://april.nekoweb.org/guides/gnu_linux_beginners_guide/square_zero.html
With the asterisk...
*after initial configuration & setup
When you first install Linux you have to do some stuff in the terminal to get it working for gaming that you wouldn't have to do on Windows. It's not that hard or time-consuming but... yeah I mean it's not like you can just install Steam, games, and then run them without a little bit of initial configuration effort. That was my experience with Ubuntu as of last year anyway as a new Linux user.
Once you're done with that though, yeah it pretty much just works... I've been on Ubuntu since then and played lots of Steam games with basically no issues.
Maybe SteamOS is pre-configured to just work out of the box for gaming, idk. I've never used a Steam Deck personally so idk.
Ubuntu isn't a primary gaming OS.
