Off Topic, The Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club, when John Hughes wanted to make everybody feel like their school experiences were not as good as somebody elses.

For people who do not know The Breakfast Club is a 1980s high school film that despite it being pretty nice film has found itself in controversy of the modern day loons.

Despite this it is still a nice film.

It focuses around a Saturday Detention.
You have your 'jock' 'princess' 'nerd' 'sort of crazy but cool girl' and criminal.

I don't get why they showed up in the first place but that is middle America for you, get told to do a detention so you just show up on a Saturday!

It's worth a watch.
Unlike Off Topic, and yet we still find ourselves here.

The rejected people of society or at least the entirety of world's forums and yet...Steam OT is the only place that will accept us.

We have to put up with each other just like Middle America had to endure that Saturday captivity with a Barry Manilow impersonator.
The guy makes me think badly of Barry Manilow, that is how evil that teacher is.
He made over a million people dislike Barry Manilow and his clothes - especially his clothes.

The most intelligent one out the lot and I realised this in school to was the Janitor.
'they didn't change, you did' .
A lesson for all the people as they age.

How do you feel about any or all of the following :

The Breakfast Club
Barry Manilow
That Teacher
The Students - who would have just decked Voldemort.
And Off Topic Forums.

"HEY HEY HEY YEAH! OOOOOOH UH OOOOOH WOAH!" Comes to mind.
-writes a hundred plus word introduction to an interesting topic filled with possibility....

(and still manages to typo 'filled').

Love that song. If you could see me, I'd raise my fist in the air.

That end scene is an act of art.
Simplicity and brilliant.
Only Adam Goldberg was able to ruin it. And to be fair we all like him so its sort of cool in the nerd kind of way.

The music is perfect for the film and plays such an important role in explaining the feelings amongst them.

it’s the worst movie of all time, don’t know how people watch it, the makeover thing sucked.
it feels like a movie that preaches cohesion, social norms and conformity rather than individuality and being true to yourself and dressing how you want.

You are now going to be called Jim.

You see Jim, there comes a time when people realise they are isolated while trying to conform or be accepted and in this want of acceptance they sometimes miss the mark and are not really true to themselves and so are not really being accepted for who they are.

To people not seen the film, watch it before reading this post further and it is not like a big blockbuster action a minute film, that is why it is good, because it is quite understated just people on a detention with Evil Barry Manilow impersonator watching over them in a distant kind of way - which is an artistic thing in itself do note...that could be another message in itself.

Do not read bit :
The Jock was under a lot of pressure to perform and to match up to his father's expectation and to mimic him for approval.
So he did something to impress his father that did not impress his father and instead upset somebody else and made the Jock be bit of a tool.
The Jock is actually a nice guy trying to live up to expectation and trying to be somebody else hence he is trying to conform and in doing so gets rejected in different ways.
- in being himself he actually gets his father's approval when his father sees him with the former outcast and now looks a nice young woman.

The Princess,
Has to be maintaining a certain social order. She has to look a certain way she has to eat a certain way she has to be a snob.
She is not unpleasant but is in a rut of having to be this person and so 'becomes this princess snob'.

The Nerd,
He enjoys pushing his brain and to learn and then the pressure gets to him because again he has to be this person conforming to his what his parents tell him to be and what to do.
Now I am not saying that is a bad thing but they obviously pushed him too far and a slight grade dip and the world has ended!
It is not like he gets the reward for it either in the home life as you can see in the car they are a bit pointy pointy at him.
A very good lesson for future parents.

The sort of weird girl,
Who turns out is just in desparate need of attention and does not know how to go about it.
-so she sleeps with The Jock, I don't think that is a particularly good message actually.
But ignoring that part, she does get to the point with the group to trust them enough to like her as her and not bit of a self outcasted defensive wall.

The Criminal,
He showed up to detention, this says something immediately about him.
He is willing to step up and improve himself by wanting to stay in school.
I take a guess he is taking what they call over their 'shop' over here in the UK it was called tech. You get to go on seriously expensive machinery and make stuff.
PErsonally in my school we should have ditched a few other lessons and did more tech because that was interesting, adn i learned to draw through the graphics part of it too (perspective drawing, practice it lots of information out there few half hour sessions a week and you'll be surprised if at the beginning you thought you couldn't draw).
Anyway back to The Criminal :
He did want to improve despite his attitude, he again has to put up a front as a barrier and you have to fight through it in some form to get to know him and then you got a friend. - now do not expect this to be realistic some people truly are anti social psychos.

His transition wasn't that he was going to stop being himself, but he felt again acceptance in a group that were just like him. That he had worth where at home he was not getting that sense of worth.
That was marking his behaviour throughout all other interactions.
The fist in the air?

Pretty powerful stuff really, he had finally achieved.

No idea what's controversial about it.

Probably another nontroversy drummed up by bored people.

I was referencing another Jim.
A Jim who likes warm apple pie.
just to shorten what I said, I think the breakfast club is drivel, like most 80s teen movies are, unintelligent drivel that is low effort and painful to watch.
