Is it the green frog Pepe ?
Pepe Le Pew?

-or-

"Pepe" on Love Island?
Yes.

it may not originate that way but it's been adopted by awful people, and like it or not, can be inferred to be hateful.

edit: example the "ok" sign.

Started out as a harmless meme.

Got co-opted by some pretty horrible human beings.

The problem with semiotic logic is that whatever the largest number of people perceive a thing to be determines what it *is*, in a social sense. Folks who don't spend significant time online probably haven't the first idea what Pepe even is, but for those who do, the use to which he has been put over the last few years definitely delineates what he is in present context.

Just like your masters the democrats created woke and LARPing, same people created Pepe as symbol of libertarian-ism
rightly or wrongly, for me, if a user posts it or has an avatar etc then that's a huge red flag in my eyes.
If anything pepe le pew is a symbol of l'amour

No, he's a cartoon frog.

Just because someone "unscrupulous" uses a rather innocuous cartoon character for cringe or garbage-posting, doesn't make the character the bad one.

If I hypothetically put Mickey Mouse in a "natzi" uniform, does that mean Disney and Mickey Mouse as a whole are "natzis" or would I be the problem for hypothetically doing said thing?

Blame individuals for their individual actions, not cartoon characters or inanimate objects that were never intended to be used in such a way. :steamfacepalm:

It's a logical fallacy to group all people under the same heading based solely on symbols, but given that people tend to *congregate* around shared symbols, raw logic cannot be used by itself to cope with the vagaries of human identification.

Put more directly: it's an understandable reflex. I actively avoid anyone flying the Confederate Battle Standard; it's possible some of them are wonderful people who simply subscribe to the "southern pride" excuse, but the general likelihood is that they're not going to be someone I want to associate with.
Pepe was created in USA, just as woke and LARPing and exported to the rest of the world. Nowadays wokism and pepeism is more of a problem in the importing european countries than a problem to USA
:pepepope:

^ This guy?

Come on, he's just a friendly frog bro
