Do medieval-Fantasy stories and video games often avoid the topic of slavery?
I mean it was a big thing in middle ages and even latter...so it doesn't make sense to exclude it.

You know those elves who age slowly would probably start enslaving other races.

Odd question. Tons of fantasy settings have slavery or forced servitude.

Skyrim is pretty big on that Elves making slaves of the Nord.
Elves often enough are slaves or such in fantasy.

It doesn't get avoided, no. It also doesn't always have to be addressed, though. Personally I'm good without it.

in a lot of stories inspired by tolkien, they are just an endangered species....even though they would be overpopulating the whole continent

There are more slaves today than at any other point in history.

Gotta get that lithium, diamond, and bananas.

We just like to think the problem went away, because it makes us feel good.

dont think so in ancient time you are forced to work for your lord, so when armed people came in your village you know they want you to build something or going to send you in another country for war and you cant really say no

Most people are still forced to work for a lord. Don't pay your taxes and bills? You get a warning, then people with weapons will take you from your home and seize your assets.

You have to ask permission to travel, be approved by some appointed official, and armed people will stop you if you don't comply.

You can be drafted and sent off to war, or be jailed if you refuse.

No, our legal system is still very medieval. Because you need a credible threat of violence to force compliance from people. Always have, always will. Thats just what governments do. Only a tiny fraction of people are capable of real cooperation, so for a large group - coercion is much more effective.

Final Fantasy 16 featured slavery in a medieval fantasy setting.
