Epic's Tim Sweeney sets his sights on Valve after winning in court against Apple and Google
Cites the fact small and medium developers only earn 25% of every sale they make on the platform after every tax on making a game and selling it on steam is accounted for, and that this is a worse profit margin than in the 1990s, while physical PC videogames were still the norm.

I don't trust the EGS' China backed platform as far as I could throw it, but I do trust increased competition amongst storefronts to result in better options for the consumer.

Do you support Sweeney's moves here? Or are you hoping for Gaben to own everything so you can live in the pod and eat the bugs with your Starfish Neuroscience brain implant artificially created happiness?

I agree. And by that logic, Gaben should stop cracking jokes about it being fun to ship games during a pandemic and start making shipping games on steam viable for small and medium developers.
for which they get 70% of the money (with a subsequently bigger cut depending on how successful the game is).

Which means indie devs with unknown games pay a bigger cut than millionaire AAA studios.

Thanks for taking the time to stop playing games to provide your input.
What's Timmy going to sue Gabe for? That Epic Games can't draw in any customers.

Then you would encourage Tim Sweeny to make a better storefront for consumers and developers instead of trying to make the competition worse.

Can you elaborate? I'm not sure how requiring Valve to provide more equitable terms for small and medium sized developers would create a worse experience for customers in the age of the modern triple a experience.

What? They got millions of customers.
They only seem to "buy" the free giveaways, but hey, millions of people logging in there every day.
He’s just mad no one likes the epic launcher and Steam is just an overall WAY better platform

Gabe should point out that Epic has exclusives and it's anti competitive.

Someone should point out that small and medium devs don't stand a chance of making a profit on EGS or GOG due to Valve's defacto monopoly, and that small and medium devs don't stand to make much profit on Steam due to Valve's terms of distribution that favor established triple a developers.

It's quite anti-competitive. 🤨

I'm pretty sure it's just Tim Swiney stomping his feet like a little kid because no one's using his launcher save for the free games he's been giving out for about 6 years. Meanwhile, Valve has done pretty much nothing but ignore him and they've been winning every day since.

Yep.

It doesn't sound like much of a competition to me either. 🧐

Well, if Timmy's platform is hurting, maybe he should stop cracking jokes about his launcher lacking basic features in the yearly roundup and get to actually making the Epic launcher something worth using.

Developers have a choice which platform they use.

You have a choice between a giant douche and a turd sandwich. Which do you choose?
