Physical. Its useful to have some bars/KrugerRands/Sovs around the home as well as in banks both Overseas and domestic.

Gold is the most stable and is beautiful.
Silver is stable, probably has the most potential upside, and is also beautiful although it tarnishes easily.
Platinum won't protect you from an economic downturn at all whatsoever. It is almost purely industrial since it isn't so beautiful.
