so what do you consider a comfortable income?
If i wanted to buy the exact house I grew up in as in the exact adress.. U need 530.000 euro.
(I than handwave it was brand new just before I was born and now is as old as me)

a house my dad could afford on a single bachalorgrade income when he was about my age now.
well my phd income wont even get close.

my income now is just over 50k
my dad if corrected to inflation used to earn a little closer to 65k
(wages have not kept up with inflation his old job now pays 42k)

I would need an income of about 105k a year to afford that house.
thats idiotic only like 2% of wages in our nation are THAT high.

to afford the rest of the lifestile he had. 5 kids & all costs, type of food, holiday, hobbies, car etc. i would even need more than that

I likely would need 130k or twice my dads income at my age correctes for inflation to properly match his lifestyle.

there is nobody earning that idiotic much but dentist doctors a few lawyers and the members of parlement.

but yeah thats how much I would need to be "comfortable" not that that means I get everything I could wish.... just that I no longer have it less than what I grew up on...

si.. 50k vs 130k I never going to bridge that..

and for you how much you would need and what you got and how realiatic you can reach it?

150-250k a year, for a single person.

The majority of Americans aren't making anywhere near that amount of income. Even dual incomes don't reach $150k. Single: $70k is about average.

I know, most people are lower class, even if they think they are middle. Nearly serfs.

Good luck on trying to be at least middle class. Those days are over.

It's not how much you make, it's how much you spend.

If you make $10,000/month but your lifestyle is $11,000 you'll always be broke. Social Media has sold the lie of people living luxury lifestyles and making it seems like it's easy. it's not.

Heck, the majority of those "influencers" are broke because they spend all their money to look rich.

200,000 a year is good income

Both points are equally true. Obviously it's important to ensure your expenses don't exceed your income, but how much you make determines how well you can live life. The cost of living is increasing and wages aren't increasing with it, forcing a lot of people to restrict even necessity items, let alone any kind of luxury goods.

50% of people earn 40k euro or more annual
34% of people earn 50k euro or more annual (this includes me)
23% of people earn 60k euro or more)
16% of people earn 70k euro or more
10% earns 80k euro or more
8% earns 90k euro or more
4% earns 100k euro or more
0.1% earns 200k euro or more

so yeah while I am low paid for a phd at 50k euro (most phd earn closer to 70k euro)
to earn 130k euro would be utterly impossisble.

stuf especially houses just went up bonkers.
