i played yugioh a lot growing up, probably my favourite tcg. i remember going to tournaments and such. never won or climbed too many ranks, but it was still always a ton of fun. during the pandemic i sold many things, including much of my ygo card collection as i no longer play and it was just being a space hog.
i had a mint condition 1st edition dark magician girl. i sold it for about 1500 lari, or 500 euro. i had to pack it so carefully, put in hard plastic sleeve, inside book, inside a box, covered in bubble wrap. because i was not wanting such a fragile item to be destroyed in transit.
because i got so much for it, i am actually somewhat being regretful that i did not have it "graded", as if it scored a perfect score it may have been worth much more than this. but oh well.
i love the art and flavour texts on classic mtg cards, i really dislike how modern mtg has so many unfitting art styles and crossovers though. i still have some of my ygo and mtg cards, i decided to keep some favourites just for memories.
yes i have seen videos of such internet people like penguinz0 opening card packs and such. the same inflations also happened to video games during the pandemic. prices of retro/classic games became so obscene because all were being stuck inside and video games were being more popular than ever because of it.
you are having any card shops or tabletop shops or such in your area? for me, this was always the places to go to meet up with others who enjoy such hobbies. some in my city are still hosting monthly card tournaments and such with prizes.
yes i have seen mtg cards of hatsune miku and vtuber characters and chucky of the childs play horror films lol. very, very unfitting for mtg. i just do not understand it, i guess they were wishing to try something new or perhaps bring in more players who were not interested before, but it is so strange to see such things when i think of how the game was 20 years ago.
enjoy the ban btw!
