Also there was a connection between Saddam and AQ. The idea that there wasn't is an anti-American myth. He, mainly through his son Qusay though also through his half brother Barzan, provided shelter for AQ operatives and gave them land for training camps. He mainly supported them because they were against America and Saddam was very strongly anti america after they betrayed him in the first gulf war.
Also Bush never lied about there being WMDs in iraq. There were WMDs in iraq, something along the lines of 4000 warheads. The only thing we didn't find was nukes, though Saddam had a nuclear program, claimed he had nukes on Iraqi TV, and refused to let international inspectors inspect his nuclear facilities (which was one of the peace agreements for the first gulf war).
Intelligence agencies like the CIA and the 9/11 Commission Report found no evidence of a cooperative effort or operational ties between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda.
