Brain damage can start as soon as 4 minutes without oxygen. Even if you do bring them back at 10 minutes, they are not likely going to be much more than a vegetable.
Is why you do chest compression in first aid. Even if you can't restart the heart that way, giving it a squeeze does keep the blood moving a bit, get some fresher oxygen filled blood into the brain. So dont be afraid to break a rib, thats easier to recover from than brain damage.
