Ok this is weird
I don't know why but the violence in Mortal Kombat games started to bother me. And I mean even the very low level of violence in the first game. I loved the first Mortal Kombat when I was a teen and now I just can't enjoy it anymore. Back then I loved its atmosphere, the mood of the various stages in terms of graphics, but now for some reasons that even I doin't understand I find its violence immersion breaking I am ok with violence in other games, I love Doom 64, I love No more heroes 2, ok sure I am not the biggest fan of fictional violence and there are many games that I love that don't have violence but usually it is not a problem and for sure it is almost never a problem for me at least unless you get to the insane levels of Mortal Kombat 10 or Mortal Kombat 11. But now for some reasons I'm not sure why I am not able anymore to enjoy even the older Mortal Kombat games.
I like Primal rage, I mean I even like a lot Splatterhouse 2 and 3!
There is something in the violence of Mortal Kombat that seems wrong to me, I do not understand why but it just feel immersion breaking somehow and it makes it too hard for me to take the game seriously enough to enjoy it.
Ok I know it is weird and maybe it is just because as I said I really loved Mortal Kombat as a teen soi back then I really played it a lot and now I'm just tired of it even if I haven't played it for years...

Hmm, personally for me I started seeing mortal kombat to be rather dehumanizing. I stopped tuning in on the franchise but I believe it has only gotten worse. I think after mortal kombat 1 the creators got crazy with the game concept and started pushing out more fights, gore, and death. Seeing the history now with the censorship I think they were right all along in doing those efforts for the home consoles. In Mk2-4 they went crazy with the story for the sake of fighting, Mk midway era it mellowed out and still had a cartoony vibe, but then it went off the rails with NetherRealm. To this day I still don't know why anyone is fighting aside from the first mortal kombat game. Take the dragon ball franchise for example there are sagas and arcs as to why characters fight, an element completely missing in older mortal kombat and in newer mortal kombats even with a story now it's become uncanny that they're still fighting after nearly 3 decades. That's just me, it's depraving and dehumanizing however I believe in these contemporary times we've evolved to expect more from characters and stories because a well developed story and character helps us connect better and certainly not a corpse. They have talent but I can't take their X ray or whatever they have going on now in terms of lethal hits serious because anyone would drop unconsciousness or dead after suffering from them.
The conditioning is working. :steammocking:

Nothing to censor brah, most of mk is simply akin to meaningless X rated material (and graphical stuff does happen at that) and is not needed. In fact some of the most meaningful works came from the darkest places of the human heart and definitely not children's works. Mk needed to stay behind like crash bandicoot and the RE franchise they're very much irrelevant to today's standards.

The issue is that the older MK games had cartoonish violence. It was easy to get a laugh from it. The modern MK games are basically just violence porn. That's the difference.
mk violence is so violent is that it's comical which wraps it around to being not brutal ironically, TLOU2 is much closer to real life, if you compare gore videos to TLOU2 it is sometimes one on one, the blood streaming and misting is spot on.

They still have the exploding heads unlike real life where the head just opens up into a "rose".

the violence is still cartoonish in the new games with how over the top it is, but the new MK games have a realistic art style so it appears more disturbing.
I played Primal Rage too - Vertigo all the way! Long-necked dragons with hypnosis are the best!
Mortal Kombat has lost its appeal. The fatalities have become needlessly grotesque, and it’s unclear who the game is even for anymore. The addition of a character like Homelander - a sadistic pervert who enjoys drinking 'suspicious milk' between fights - pretty much says it all, circus of freaks

There's quite an interesting video where they discuss how they made the sound effects. Basically a lot of squishing fruit and stuff lol

actually quite like how even with the darker and more serious tone of the new games, there is still a lot of goofy aspects and dark humour. not quite smushing fruits level, but stuff like the fun fatalities:

Mortal Kombat's grotesque violence is really it's only big gimmick. As a 2d fighter, it's alright. Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, Tekken, etc. Those games are better fighters mechanically: but they don't have fatalities. I really hated when they added babalities; it wasn't funny, it's just annoying. Don't censor my video-games please and thank you. :sproggifear:

Next you might start calling pokemon satanic and wanting online censorship.

Welcome to older adulthood.

When you upper cut a guy 3 times and 3 skulls pop out of his head, of you blow him to bits and he is made up of only tibias, it is is not realistic.

Compare that to the new x-ray attacks and fatalities, and it is not even close.
Honest answer, OP:
You grew up.

When you get older, you start realizing the gore and violence bothers you.
Not that it's wrong or anything, but just it bothers you personally.

I was the same way in GTA. After a while, I realized I wasn't enjoying the violence. And from there my interest fizzled out.
