'Democratic socialist' new mayor of New York?
Was a bit surprised to see that someone who identifies as a democratic socialist has a chance of becoming the new mayor of New York:

https://ground.news/article/andrew-cuomo-concedes-new-york-city-democratic-mayoral-primary-to-zohran-mamdani_ef5b72

I wonder if he (or others?) have identified him incorrectly, and mean 'social democrat'?

Apparently Bernie Sanders incorrectly identified himself as a democratic socialist once as well, which may have 'stuck' in other Americans as well?

Anyway, there is a big difference. Democratic socialism is anti-capitalism (basically what the Soviet union was), while social democracy endorses it.

Just seems a bit weird that the city with Wall Street would elect an anti-capitalist as mayor :VBOY:

It's all elon's fault, dear trumpsters. It's AAALL ELONS FAULT. He turned off the bribe faucet for the republicans.

Gogethim, rawr. :lunar2019crylaughingpig:
So glad he won
It's not weird when you see the map and understand he won all the under 45 and over 100k a year salary and whites votes. It's pretty standard in America for all the rich white kids and middle upper class kids to vote for socialist while the working poor don't.

His rival Coumo, who is a huge pos btw, won over 45, under 50k, black and Hispanic voters...

Only in the land of capitalism are the biggest beneficiaries of capitalism "socialist."

Tbh these people think the government doing things is socialism :crashbcoot:

Didn't i say blue states here will continue the EUs agenda?
Yep, i'm not a Democrat so i couldn't vote in the primary. But i'll vote for him in the general. We need people who fight for working class people. Not AIPAC. Not the Business Community, but us.

And what makes it even better, are Trumplicans clutching their pearls along with Corporate Democratic establishment.

It a great thing :steamhappy:

He is still a Democrat. Which means he will be controlled by the Democratic machine. The Democratic party is where worker movements go to die.

How many times you need to see a "progressive" or "socialist" get elected as a radical and turned into a establishment stooge???

Nancy Pelosi literally made AOC cry on the house floor when she forced AOC to change her vote on funding the iron dome for Israel.

AOC didn't do the right math so she and her fake progressives could all virtue signal with no votes for idiots that think they actually stand for something. You can find the video online if you don't believe me.

Tldr AOC tired to pretend she was resisting funding the iron dome. She was to dumb with her math and Nancy made her change her vote so the funding went through. Cause she is a fraud.
You think a guy that openly supports the BDS movement is going to get elected in the Jewish capital of America?

These people will never understand who runs America.
But i would say to Bjorn and folks who may be from Europe or other areas, is that it is very important not to learn "wrong" lessons from Elections.

In this country, both political parties, and ESPECIALLY the media, learn the wrong lessons.

Killary lost, because she was too far to the right for the urban centers. Urban centers that carry a state.

And so, it wasn't Trump who won, it is soley she that lost.

Fast forward to Biden. He did not make up any ground in those same areas. He may have won the popular vote during Covid, but he only won by 40k votes in the key states.

And if Green Party Jill Stein would have run in that election. Biden would have lost.

Again, he was too right wing for the urban centers that carry a state.

Harris, same deal.

She doubled down on Israel and Ukraine, told Detroit, Philadelphia and Milwaukee to eat cake, as she, like Hillary, looked for those Republican Haley voters, thinking there was a Democrat waiting to come out, because she could not turn out the urban centers.

And so, the mistake the Republicans made, and they will again find out VERY quickly, the country is NOT moving to the RIGHT at all.

It's only that our Urban areas that carry a state are moving ...to the Left, and have stayed home in those elections. Or did not turn out in the numbers needed. I was one of them.

We seen this on many occasions, but the Democratic Establishment, refuses to acknowlege it, being the Donors, whether it's Wall St, AIPAC, Big Tech giving to their campaigns, will not let them move Left on these economic and foreign policy issues.

And so, Mandami or those like him that don't need their rmoney, are the answer for the urban centers, that will carry a state and win it for Democrats.

That doesn't mean it will work in Scranton PA. But Scranton and the burbs, don't carry a state. The cities do .

Hmm, I didn't know there is a difference between the Soc-dem label and dem-soc label. But googling it. You do seem to be right about soc-dems and dem-socs technically being two different types of beliefs. Where the main difference is one wants to increase social welfare under capitalism, and one wants to move past capitalism entirely.

He's basically already won. Cuomo might even run again as an independent. Which would only further fracture the votes between him and Adams. As I don't think that race has ranked choice voting.

Well, i wish they would. Because all we seem to have, are a flood of millionaires coming into this city in droves, paying unconscienbale rents, and pricing people out.

The answer is let them LEAVE, at least to some extent, in so we can get these rents down, and the space they leave behind can go towards housing.

As it stands, the working class in this city are being priced out. So having a bunch of greedsters flee, not the the worst thing.

You cant even go down a block here, without seeing three pizza places, two chinese, three nail salons, 3 drug stores, a tanning salon, two shoe places, it's insane what credit cards can do for people.

But we're being priced out, and the rich need to be TAXED, or MOVE OUT :steamfacepalm:
