Frozen or thawed?
When you buy frozen food, and it says on the package to cook it (oven heat, fry / pan fry, boil etc.) directly from frozen, do you do that, or do you thaw it first?

I have a feeling they only mark it that way so that the indicated preparation time will be shorter, since many people don't have much time to cook these days.

Anyway, I usually thaw it. I think it tastes better when prepared from room temperature, and also the texture changes a lot when food goes directly from frozen to cooked. Messed up molecules...

Silly question, perhaps, but just curious what others do :lunar2019smilingpig:

Like now I'm about to prepare hamburgers (the good kind, with like 99% beef), and it says on the package to fry them frozen, but I have thawed them. Am I a rebel? :rufusscared:

I generally cook from frozen. Even if it says to thaw first.

If the center is still cold, that's why God invented microwave ovens.

(And, yes, I've had to microwave frozen patties after they were fried. Mostly because I had the stove too hot and I was too impatient.)

I always naturally defrost anything frozen before cooking and I stay away from microwave defrost

You're thawing it while it cooks anyway, you're just using extra heat to do it. It won't actually cook until the temp raises to appropriate levels which means you're actually thawing it first regardless.
I always cook from frozen. I'm a very impatient mon and I don't feel like letting it thaw just to cook it again anyways.

I just want my food man

Overnight in the fridge, ready to cook the next day. Easy button enabled.
I always thaw frozen meat first, but frozen vegs go straight into the microwave.
I follow the directions. I dont really eat frozen stuff, generally.

oh, except peas.
its like when they say heat up the oven....
i just add a few minutes more to cooking time and start from a cold oven...
this really depends on what it happens to be

That is true. For example I rarely bother to thaw frozen pizzas.

But some things are very noticeably better when thawing it first, for example pork chops, or steaks. These things I usually buy fresh, though, but if I buy many (on sale, for example) I put some in the freezer.

Being a bit impatient and frying these directly from frozen condition makes them very dry and 'rubbery', compared to when defrosting them first.

But I mainly meant thawing things that are 'supposed' to be prepared directly from the freezer, though, according to the instructions. Most of this tastes better when defrosted first, is my experience. Slowly overnight in the fridge, then at room temperature for an hour or two.
Be a true rebel and don't even bother cooking anything. Just pull whatever out of the freezer and start eating. Don't bother to remove the packaging or anything. Plastic wrap is basically fiber.

I thaw everything, for about 4 hours. Sometimes cooking something straight from frozen leaves the product with too much moisture.
