that applies to most threads in the forums i am thinking. not the right environment, not the right folk.
not all are bad people :(
i have interacted with many kind cops. i have also been thrown to the ground and put in handcuffs even when being peaceable. the job itself unfortunately requiring a bit of cruelty
Ya living in the big cities Ive seen cops sell drugs and kill people, all of it.
Most are good and honest. Hard-workers. That suffer from long hours.
...and then there are the other ones. Overzealous and way too aggressive. Abusing their power.
You tend to hear about one, and not the other. Media bias.
Have you ever watched 'COPS'? They do try to deescalate. More often than not, the suspect just runs. There's no opportunity for an interrogation.
That is a vast generalization.
Every area of U.S. cops have varied requirements. There's no consistency. No Federal oversight.
Want to be FBI? Prepare to be fully investigated. Have skills. Spend years at Quantico.
Or just join the local police. They'll take just about anybody. Because no one wants to be cops anymore.
Qualified immunity is a problem. However, it's not universally granted.
Try to put yourself in the place of a cop. A guy shoots at you. You fire back. He dies. Should you go to prison for life?
There are no ICE people patrolling my town asking African-Americans for their "papers". You are drinking some weird flavor of Kool-Aide.
Some cops arrest people illegally, others are outright scumbags and should've never been hired in the first place.
With qualified immunity, they can't be sued for their actions, and if a police department does have to pay out, it's with taxpayer dollars.
Cops can be great, but the bad ones ruin it for all parties involved
There is no way to keep corrupt police from being corrupt if they have qualified immunity (can't be touched in a court).
It's all a money making racket really.
I can't say about the rest of europe but in the UK both the police and the criminal are not armed, so policing takes on a different route. Unlike ameircan and european police, british police are more vulnerable simply due to not being armed.
I really don't think soo, these 3rd world countries are way more corrupt. I seen video's were some 3rd world police officers simply beat the crap out of suspects and nothing happens. In the western world, police have to think twice.
