is there an alternative to giving your ssn or gov ID went signing up for starlink or Tmobile home ?
I plan to have internet over the road ( same as RVr's ) but I keep reading that they ask for ssn ? I'm not trying to have my info stolen . I just came from a few government offices and they tell you never to hand out that info. To my knowledge the only people you're supposed to give that info to is the government , a job, or a bank aka the government. Why is an internet company asking for this ? What are the alternatives ? I don't want to just hand that info over because if they get hacked then i get my identity stolen.

They don't require SSN but use it for credit checks. You can tell them you don't want to provide SSN and they should offer to provide service as long as you are willing to make a deposit with the company. I did this around 2004 for mobile service and again recently for fiber service to my home.

Good question. Try UPS store and ask the Notary.

Did you try googling it by chance?

Yes and google has conflicting information no matter if it comes from articles , AI , or reddit users . Nobody seems to have an answer . I know steam users pay for their own internet sometimes so i decided to ask here for that very reason.

Yes, but it's tricky.

Go to Utah, rent a house anywhere there. Wait for a couple of months, then call Social Security Administration and tell them your kid was recently born, but it's kinda ill and you can't take him to a hospital right now to declare the birth, then explain that the kid needs to be assigned a SSN for inheritance reasons.

Wait for a while, then call back and make this matter urgent. Wait some more time and they'll finally issue you a SSN for the ghost kid.

Congrats, now you have a brand new SSN that you will be able to use not just for starlink, but other activities...
AI will tell you no then turn around and tell you yes. Can't ask AI .... People on reddit either dodge the question or troll. Steam users buy internet services so they'd know.

Also an ssn for a kid can't be used for things like that .... where did you get this from ? Did AI stupidly tell you this ? Makes no sense.

ISPs are companies that need identification for service. The "government offices" would advise this if you asked about getting internet service.

If you're worried about identify theft, go to credit karma and/or experian. You should be monitoring your credit account, which is where any credit cards, loans, debts, etc, are going to show up.

I'm afraid you're wrong, as long as a kid can own cars, houses and guns, a kid can own his own starlink. Read the laws and learn.

Yes identification .... my ID is one thing but my ssn ? I mean does everyone who signs up for internet all give their ssn ?

hold up ... no way people who own internet give ssn.... i just thought about piracy .... every person would be immediately found out and caught no matter what because the internet provider would be tied to ssn . This must be some new option or something.

you are the one who is trolling, you asked a barely legal question and you're surprised the answers are also barely legal

go figure
Roughly 25 million illegal immigrants in the USA, they all get internet with no social security number.
Roughly 400,000 Ukraine refugees in the USA, they all get internet with no social security number.
So yes. You can get internet without a social security number. Talk to those folks listed above.
