Tour de France 2025 - Steam Thread
Welcome to the Tour de France 2025 Steam Thread

It is time for the Tour de France. This time the 2025 edition.
Some people know this event because of the scandals, some because of its beautiful showcase of France and some for the beauty of cycling.

Whatever reasons you might have, you are all welcome here. This thread is supposed to be a place where you can debate anything revolving the tour, no matter if it is results, your favourite this year or maybe even more clinic focused stuff (the doping debate)

Stage one starts today (Lille Métropole > Lille Métropole) and the neutralized start will begin at 13:10 CEST.

Lets start with the basics. The Tour de France is an annual men's multiple-stage bicycle race held primarily in France (It sometimes have starts and stages in other countries). It is the oldest and most prestigious of the three Grand Tours.

A little information about the two big favourites for the Yellow Jersey

Tadej Pogačar

He is 26 years old and from Slovenia. He is 1.76m height and 66 kilograms and a overall rider (albeit very good at mountain stages with burst of power)
He won the Tour de France in 2020, 2021 and 2024 (last year) so he is a defending champion.

Jonas Vingegaard

He is 28 years old and from Denmark. He is 1.75 m and 56 kilograms and is a overall rider as well (good at mountain stages where he keeps a steady pace, but not a burster, also good at time trial)
He won the Tour de France in 2022 and 2023.

Clinic Talk - Scandals

The Tour have not been without scandals. Most people remember Lance Armstrong
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1qf9TlFTl4

There have been talk about all from regular doping to small motors in the cycles and whatnot. Overall that is a part of the cycling community as well. While Armstrong was one of the most known ones, there are countless other examples.

Fun fact: Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard perform better than Lance Armstrong!!! So well.. we can talk about that.

Other scandals.

The Festina affair
Michael Rasmussen
Alberto Contador

France made its first anti-doping law back in 1964.

Predictions

Now for a little contest. Predict the winner of each catagory and the winner of each stage (we do the stages daily seperately)

I predict Tadej Pogačar as Yellow Jersey winner, Jasper Philipsen as Green Jersey, Lenny Martinez as Polka Dot, Florian Lipowitz as White Jersey and UAE Team Emirates XRG as best team.

I also predict atleast one scandal this year, I don´t think we will see a doping scandal, but instead we will see a situation where a fan crash with a favourite during a race (Hopefully I am wrong)

What do you think? Do you bike yourself? Do you watch the Tour? or only some stages?
Have a wonderful day all.

I think you did an amazing work, Mr. Gorion, Sir. Its not my type of sport, and it doesn't look like Suisse has a chance, anyway... :steamhappy:

Thank you for sharing, it is always good with a little fun.
They'll be messing with a fellow in yellow who will be pedalling like hell up in the peloton.

Thank you.

It can be a tad harsh to make a long thread like this with so many details, but I tried to not overdo it. But I think there are tour fans in off topic, so its worth it.

It will be interesting to see if I am right about Philipsen getting the Yellow Jersey today, but well.. obviously all will be pedalling like hell.

The gap to the break is around 2.10 min. I don´t expect them to be able to pull it off.

If you can´t watch the tour, then you can follow it here for updates

Todays state could be interesting because of the wind, but we will have to wait a bit more for something crazy to happen.. Most likely it will be your avarage starter stage.
UAE is attacking in the wind.

I usually hear about the winner later to be a confirmed cheater
First exist of the tour already.
Filippo Ganna had a fall and hurt his back to much.

It is like that for many, but there are many winners in the current age that have never been confirmed to cheap (both of the two favourites have never been so ie. and they have won the last 5 together)

armstrong won his first title like in 1999, the doping was confirmed like in 2012. And I think he got caught and sanctioned by a us agency because other us cyclists spilled the beans.
Tour de france organization didn't do anything, if it was up to the tour de france he would still be a champion

tour de france is not much interested in revealing all those cheaters because it obviously damages the reputation of the tour de france

disgusting af

Obviously not. It is not good for business, but in some cases they still do it.. Take the Rasmussen case.. they disliked him and they had no issue in throwing him under the bus.
He was never caught in the cookie jaw, but later spilled the cheating himself.
I bike a lot irl, but have never been fascinated enough in watching others do it for sport. I get it from the athlete's perspective, the competition and training must be very motivating for them and others, but have absolutely no desire to be a spectator.
You mean Tour de Africa? How many infidels are going to be beheaded this time?
