Why are so many Americans obsessed with SOCIALISM?
I mean, at least I met many here on Steam who appear to really glorify it and act as if they know about it, because they read some books or articles.

As someone who lived under a socialist authoritarian regime in Germany, I always wonder why people that live in the U.S and enjoy all the freedom you can get, act as if they need socialism and its the solution, without having a realistic clue about it nor ever suffered from it.

They also don't seem to be open to get schooled by someone from Europe, who actually experienced this himself and his family on numerous occassions. Learning resistant much?

Can someone explain to me what this hype is? Where does it stem from? Why is it so popular on Steam?

Dumb/stupid take your pick, at least 50% of America is this, unteachable and unreachable.

No, but the other Q's I can give some thoughts.

Where does it stem from?

Desperation to believe in something to save them, from themselves, go back to the first answer if you need clarification.

If it really is a problem on Steam, then you probably running into extremist fringe people who are running bots or multi accounts. Nothing on the internet is real, just a massive collection of bored, upset and degenerate people with an incalculable amount of free time on their hands.

Pontificating procrastinators, drowning in delusional lying, not just to others but themselves. Misery loves company and all that jazz.

Bit like the people wanting some -ism to be the thing they envisage it to be. Which ever -ism it happens to be.

The common theme between all these disparate groups, they are members of the tribe of rejectionism as well as their weird self selected usually non compatible other -ism(s).

When you don't have hope, you have belief, at that point, you are probably lost. Welcome to the internet, where the headless chickens are all clucking about it. Dullahan chickens. Empty cans and rattling the most.

Not sure if those colloquialisms have counterparts in your native tongue but hopefully they do.

All very old problems. If you don't value your own sanity, continue to cruise on the internet, you'll pick some crazy up sooner or later, then it'll all make perfect, deranged sense. Absolutely.

I can. One of my ex wives has not worked since 2014.
She got a Home Depot personal credit card and a Business line credit card.
She got alot of credit cards.
$60,000 in debt later she is filing Bankruptcy.

They knew she had no job. Yet they gave her the money knowing she has nothing.
Guess which way she voted?

Yeah, pretty much same here in Europe.

Winners vote differently.
Because it appeals to losers and people with luxury beliefs, aka losers with an inheritance.
1. A school system that preaches and teaches about the positives of Socialism and a Socialist society but also curiously stopped teaching kids how to manage their own finances or how to manage taxes.

2. A post-Secondary education system that, outside of STEM courses, is awash in filthy Socialists being marshaled about by tenured professors.

3. A mass media complex controlled by half a dozen corporations whom all took a page from Joseph Goebbels - repeat a lie often enough until it becomes the truth.

4. A very inaccurate view of Baltic European States that managed to make a Socialist state work (somewhat).

5. They tend to gake-keep their community very well, outside of that look at how they all fled to BlueSky after they were unable to continue imposing their own socialist moral authority on everyone else on Twitter/X. You're either with them or against them.

6. Champaign Socialists (Rich Folk like Hassan Piker who preach about Socialism being amazing) whom play make-believe because they are generally terrible people who think they'll find salvation through preaching the word of Socialism. Never wanting to put their own skin in the game while expecting everyone else to do so.
Because they dont understand it and have been drip fed disinfo about it for generations.

it's essentially their "boogyman"
are they? or is that just what the internet makes it seem like? i am guessing the average american (or nobody honestly) cares about such things

Because they look at the EU and feel envy.
I'm not very bright so I did some homework. It sounds like a dollar store version of communism. The people control the means of production aka farms, factories, ect....

The best way to describe it is Climate Change where the weather is always your fault and the only answer is more socialism and taxes, just like they do in the EU.

In facts all you do is looking at our country and talking about the EU has healthcare, education, infrastructures, and you have nothing, but some burgers.
