i'd check to see if you didn't suffer from some kind of acute trauma as a child and blocked it out.
or that was one hell of a fever dream you had thanks to chicken pox :V
I mean, many Games from these times were kinda strange and like a fever dream, but the Game im talking about is very real. :D
Gradius
Parodius
Darius (has an orange ship)
The Ship the Player controls has very rougly this shape and is mostly Orange if i remember correctly. The first Level i remember playing (i hope it wasnt some kind of Demo Version) was in Space where you quite easiely and fast got to the first Boss, sadly i dont remember how he looked or what he did. :(

I found the Music from the first Level like 2 Years ago and was surprised that it instantly went into my mind that i connected it with this Game. Sadly, i cant remember what it was. Ill search through my History, maybe im lucky enough to find it. :/
Like i said, the Music wasnt, atleast in the first Level a kind of Chiptune or Energy Beat or something, it was a kinda serious, slightly depressing Classical Track
ALSO, if i remember correcntly, but dont pin me to it, the Game had barely if any 3D effects like quite many of this Genre had.
