GPU upgraded...same performance
I upgraded from titan xp to 5080. Performance and graphics are the same whilst the cards have 10 year difference at same price tag when they came out. ~1200USD

What is your processor?
If you're still having performance issues, then it might be a CPU bottleneck.

I guess you get ray tracing now, and some games are requiring that to run.
I have Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz

This is a really old chip. I ran one of these with a 2080ti, You won't see much difference in new games w/o a modern CPU paired to a 5080

What resolution are you running? The bottleneck is going to be worse the lower you go.

Sounds like a CPU bottleneck... while your CPU is pretty old, it is not a bad CPU.

Make sure your mobo supports the latest PCIe versions.

If I'm not mistaken the 5080 is a pci-e 5.0. If you put it in a pci-e 4.0 port it will run at the 4.0 speeds. That might be why you see no change.

It's not going to matter since the i9-9900k doesn't support gen 4 PCIe either way

The chip only supports 3.0

Yea I know I was just using 4.0 as a reference point. Same will still apply and run even slower on a 3.0 pcie port.

As said above by BASelect- 5080 is a gen 4 card and the z390 doesn't support gen 4. Neither does the i9-9900k

https://www.reddit.com/r/intel/comments/gk04r4/does_z390_support_pcie_40/

Unfortunately, to fully utilize the card you'll need a new MOBO and CPU.

I'd recommend a 7800X3D or 9800X3D CPU
maybe an X670 mobo

Game performance isn't entirely GPU based, it's probably a CPU and RAM issue

stupid question but if i install a new mobo and cpu and then power up, are the hard drives fully functional as they were before?

Yes you can use your old hard drives. I have before in my pc builds sames some money. I think 5 of the 13 hard drives I got came from my old build.
