Nintendo allegedly bricks a customer's switch 2 because he played a used switch 1 game on it.
So this is the legacy Good Guy Valve has left us, huh?

Valve is not your friend, and Steam is not healthy for gaming

The illusion behind the “Good Guy Valve” reputation

...

If you were to ask the average PC gamer, they’d swear up and down that there’s no way they’d ever give their money to such a corporation. They’d not only be caught dead before helping a company like that come to power, they might even join the resistance to stop them.

And yet, that sort of operation is exactly what the PC gaming community has been supporting, promoting and defending since 2004 when Valve more or less forced us to install Steam by bundling it with Half-Life 2.

...

All of this began when Valve released an easy way to keep Counter-Strike updated. And then Valve figured out it could get a lot of people using the software by making it a mandatory part of Half-Life 2. Here’s what ExtremeTech wrote in 2004:

In an unusual first for PC games, Half-Life 2 will require some form of Internet access upon installation, Valve Software’s Doug Lombardi confirmed today.

“All versions require an Internet connection upon installation” to prove the legitimacy of a player’s copy, Lombardi said. “This is for authentication/anti-piracy purposes. Once this has been completed, the owner of either the retail or the Steam version can play Half-Life 2 single player in offline mode.”

We were so young then.

Remember that even the retail version of Half-Life 2 required the installation of Steam, which means any store that sold PC software was selling you their doom with every copy of the game. ...

I mean, I can tear one side of an Oreo off and eat only the side with more frosting, but should I? That seems like an awful waste.

They providing the bricks to build Trumps wall.
That didn't happen. Otherwise, post the article.

Yeah, they've been bricking Switch 2s for a while now.

Nintendo's objective is to kill the secondhand market.
They further have used multiple encryption to disable 3rd party accessories, with the threat of arbitrary permanent bricking for use of 3rd party accessories.

And because of Nintendo's EULA and ToS, you're not permitted to take any legal actions against them, outside of a laughable arbitration.

-----

Thankfully, Brazil's government is currently serving Nintendo notice that they are violating several laws, and will be fined daily if not addressed.

No they haven't.

Yes, they have, kid.

Sorry your precious Nintendo decided to be bigger scumbags than EA and Disney combined.

They haven't.

The two cases I've seen have been purely online functionality bans(which every console does). One from using a Switch flashcart(which break the ToS) and going online. The other from a username.

There hasn't been any complete bricking of systems.

I didn't see it, so it didn't happen.

That's unfortunate for you.

I see your personal war against GabeN is still ongoing.
The response from the DoJ didn't help.

Yeah, unfortunately the Nintendo fanboys are up in arms over this, and Brazil's actions.
They are violently denying the truth.

But for a company to randomly destroy a customer's $450 property is illegal, no matter how you slice it.
(Or worse, $800 in Brazil, due to regional pricing)

And yeah, countries have laws that protect consumers, and no EULA can supersede those laws.

Edit: Throw Jesters all you want, Boblin. But the fact remains that Nintendo is destroying people's property and breaking law. Deal with it.
