One of my favorite games is essentially that, but none of humanity is able to escape. So instead you work on a time capsule meant to memorialize mankind. It's called A Funeral with No Departed and Attendee and it's pretty good for a somewhat obscure Flash game.

I highly recommend checking it out if you have a means to emulate Flash - some extensions exist for that. It was made by this one team called Serotonin Pharmaceuticals for Ludum Dare 36.
