He'd make more sense if he snapped 100% off.
50% makes no difference.

Nah, Thanos is mad dumb.

The Earth isn't overpopulated. And even if it was, that 50% would be replaced in a single generation after the initial period of unrest.
the point is.. if you could snap to halve the population.. why not just snap to double the resources...

thats what makes it evil...

and either will not fix the issue he saw permanently.
basicly what he saw was populations grow.. exponentially.. until they push against resource limits.. than population stagnants due suffering.

so people are happy in that period of growth.. and unhappy in that stagnation phase..
by removing half of all the people in the galaxy.. he freed up resources to allow growing again.. making people happier..

basicly this is how the black plague that killed 75% of people in europe.. led to such a labour shortage.. it broke serfdom, raised wages and rights for the working classes.. and let to massive innovation... for a couple centuries (until today when we basicly once more have reached techno-feudalism..

or how some nature benefits from being burned down so that new young growth can take hold.. growth that would have zero change if light deprived by all those old tall trees hugging all the sunlight..

yet even if eradicating 75% of population thus would lead to much better lifes for those that survive people have not the stomach to do this... thus thanos saw himself as the neccecairy good to be the clensing plague...

ofcourse it would only work short term.. and you would have to snap half the people away time and time again.... or they would grow back to where they started...

but my issue is.. if you have the snap to half the people you could have doubled each snap the size of the universe and it's resources... killing nobody...

so while I agree with thanos his asessment of the issue.. I disagree with his solution. once you got 7 stone kind of power... he no longer had to resort to killing people.. that was the only tool he could use when he was still offing people with his armies...
but once he controlled the stones he could have just doubled resources instead.. and it showed his limited thinking and evilness that he not picked that chooice instead.

Thanos simultaneously didn't realize the power he had, nor did he actually fix overpopulation with his dusting. Not only could he have doubled the amount of resources in the universe with his power, he could have thought a little more creatively and solved the problem for good. Alas, he was completely and entirely lazer focused on halving populations rather than solving the problem at hand

Adulthood is realizing the avengers are cringe

It was a bad adaptation as his true motive for doing the snap was scrapped and replaced with some nonsense related to real world politics.

What motivated Thanos in the comics was getting favor with the in universe personification of death.

True wisdom is knowing Thanos had the right idea, but targeted the wrong groups of people to snap out of existence.

True wisdom is knowing that instead of snapping 50% of all living beings out of existence, you can snap in 10x the amount of resources and call it a day.
