British just call it Tuna.

As do all the Americans around here. Must be a regional thing.
Some people do, some don't. I refer to them as Tuna and Salmon.

Well first, it is Tuna Fish Sandwich. You kind of have to understand a Fish Sandwich is a thing, but it doesn't tell you what kind of fish sandwich it is. It wouldn't be so weird to say Cod Fish Sandwich. I also don't see very many people calling it canned Tuna fish. Tuna Fish is almost exclusively in reference to the sandwich. It might also be useful for denoting that it is not a tuna salad sandwich, with y'know, the scalions or onions and Celery.

Also I think the reason we don't say Salmon Fish Sandwich is I don't think people commonly eat Salmon sandwiches in the first place. I mean some weirdos probably do but canned salmon is more for putting on salads.

At least you acknowledged that salmon is also a fish too its like why people say top of the morning instead of goodmorning, I think?
