He wasn’t always sad. Once, he was bright blue with a perfect bounce, destined for joy. But something went wrong on the conveyor belt, his paint smudged into a gloomy swirl, and his bounce was ever so slightly... off. The inspectors tossed him into the reject bin with barely a glance.
For years, Sad Ball sat in the dark, listening to the echoes of laughter from toys that made it to happy homes. He dreamed of rolling across warm floors, bouncing in the hands of a giggling child, or even just seeing the sky. But all he got were spiders.
Then, one day, a curious mouse named Momo scurried into the forgotten section. She nudged Sad Ball with her nose.
“You’re round!” she squeaked. “You roll!”
And roll they did.
Through vents, across wires, and under doors, Sad Ball and Momo made their escape. The world outside was loud, wide, and full of smells. For the first time, Sad Ball felt something strange, a little less sad.
Eventually, they found a small park. Children played there every afternoon. Momo gave one final push, and Sad Ball rolled into the sunlight.
A little boy picked him up. “Cool ball!” he said, and tossed Sad Ball into the air.
Sad Ball bounced. Not perfectly. But enough.
And in that moment, he wasn’t so sad anymore.

No one noticed when it rolled off the porch.
Seasons changed.
Deflated. All alone. Never to bounce again.
Once loved, now forgotten.
"At least I have my memories."
Sad Ball faded away.
Earth is a sad, lonely ball drifting through the universe’s boundless dark
Sad Balls, indeed.
