How is it that most people refuse to admit that cars are getting worse and worse?
Styling - all have the same rounded soap bar design
Usability - touch screens everywhere, electric ebrake, dial gearshift etc
Reliability - turbos everywhere, overcomplicated 10spd transmissions, cheaper parts
Serviceability - parts shortages, too much technology to troubleshoot/work on

All of these issues seem blatantly obvious and always have been. But it feels like most people are either oblivious or just don't care. Only recently have I seen a select few YouTubers actually start pointing this stuff out. But by now, it's way too late for the industry to change course.

I bought a low mileage Crown Vic so I can go years and years without having to worry about any of this. I essentially have no skin in the game. But I'm curious what you guys think. How did we end up here? Or am I totally wrong about "modern" cars?

Just common sense honestly

I ride a bicycle, cars all look the same to me.
They create features to sell cars and then those features become industry standard. I play a game called Production Line where you operate a car factory so I know all about this.
Like in the old days, electric windows were a fancy feature, now they are a standard expectation, along with other things like touch screens, and brake pedals.

I love your qualifications. And yes, you are more an expert on this subject than I am.

Probably the worst part, to be honest.
i do not own a car, not really necessary in my country. so i am unfamiliar with the industry.

I think they're NPCs. I find it very hard to humanize such delusional output and behavior. I used to think they were hypnotized, afraid, or had brain damage though.
To be fair, the styling is changing. Right now manufacturers are going with that kind of retro look with the strip lamps and square boxy designs. And the Ford Escort Mark 1 Mark 2. And the New Renault 5 and Renault 19, the newer VWs. I think on my street someone bought a new VW and it seems pretty huge. Like a big estate / station wagon but kinda hybrid SUV.

I really just hate how 99% of cars are so dull with their colors. It's always white, grey, black, or a dark red. It's so dreary and depressing that it's almost a spectacle when you see a car with a color like yellow or pink or green, let alone something super rare like a specialized livery.

in the not so far future all cars will be automated, they will be self driven, car ownership will come to an end and become a pay per ride service, where you will just sit back and the car will self drive you to your destination.

cars as we know it today otoh will be a thing for the rich, where they will be able to drive their cars on designated private tracks but not on public roads.

Jealous.

well do not be too jealous, our public transport is widespread but it is rather low quality in some areas. especially the further you get out of the city. :p

but at least everything is fully walkable or possible to travel by my bike.
The worst trend of late is the touch tablets slapped onto the dash and the lack of any "stick" shifter for automatic. just a knob or button.
