You can only pick one.
Raise your own family. Can be poly or other. Finances are not an issue. Or earn 100,000$ a year working for some corporation. But you have little to no social life.

Sounds like something a poor person would say.

Take the money.

I'm used to having no social life.

Lack of any broader conception of family has always been my core conflict. I move towards it and yet reject being bound by it. The world wants me to have children because it knows I could never abandon them on any level, I would be bound here forever. And yet everything I have done and sought to bring into being, without a family of your own, it is ultimately hollow and meaningless.
I already have no social life. Gimmie da cash. I wanna eat pizza.

I'm assuming that "finances are not an issue" means a decidedly middle class lifestyle is guaranteed. The guarantee is worth a fair bit on its own since if I take the corporate job and experience an emergency, poof, there goes my job, and I'm saddled with debt that I might not be able to settle. Moreover, either I won't divorce, or I will be able to pay it off while retaining a middle class lifestyle.

Moreover, median household income for a family of 5 in the U.S.A. for a family of three is $107,100[infogram.com] so you actually earn more and it goes up until you hit seven or more when it suddenly spikes back down to $99,600 (I would guess at that point you probably need one parent at home at all times) so with a family you're actually earning more than $100,000.

By making it possible to have a poly family you're giving me free reign to provide a middle class lifestyle to a hypothetically infinite number of spouses in a harem each with their own children.

Plus ultimately, I don't see much point in pursuing wealth just for the sake of it. There comes a point wherein a single person hits a point of diminishing returns on their income so much, that earning more is pointless. I'm only going to live so long, and a segment of my life is over already.

What could I possibly spend $100,000 upon yearly with nobody to share it with?

I remember in 2010 a study determined that peak happiness occurs at $75,000[www.cbsnews.com], and while newer research suggests otherwise (showing it peaks at $500,000) let's assume that the $75,000 true for a moment.

Adjusting for inflation that would mean the optimal income is $110,944.32.

Not really all that much more than $100,000.

Now considering that the typical family is 4 or 5 people I'm thinking that the number would be drastically cut for just one person. Perhaps not with perfect linearity since some expenses may be fixed. but to an extent. I just don't think I'd need $100,000 unless I had somebody with whom to share it.

So in this hypothetical scenario I think it'd be wiser to take the family. The fact that I can have a social life if I want too is a bonus.

In real life where there are no guarantees and no restrictions on behavior, I'm striking it out on my own though.

Having a family sounds way better than that money if finances are not an issue anyway. Or at least taking care of them
Green paper? what is it good for?
Does it have a heart to love and to be loved?
