Should hypnosis be nerfed?
Or just patched out. Removed from the human concept. The unconscious made conscious. No more subliminals, hypnotic commands coming from sensory input, etc. Maybe it enhances the experience and thus the amount of loosh produced by the Earth concept, but it also seems like just a bad idea in general. Especially with findings that people can be put into trance without their knowledge or conscious consent, such as during sleep, or via early childhood conditioning leaving cognitive "backdoors" used by family etc.

the attempts to remove it are comparable to the attempts to reduce human mass and muscle strength.

also it's been tried; it's one of the triggers for a paulverse. people become incapable of considering alternatives to the phenomena in front of them. they see a broken pipe and it isn't their problem; the pipe was always broken as far as they're concerned.

in other words, it's an intractable problem we need to regulate just like we need to regulate other instances of malfeasance and abuse. y'know, instead of ignoring them. because we were hypnotized not to see sewer pipes.

You mean the "stiff as a board" routine? Perhaps you're right. Maybe removing its downsides and lowering resistance to auto-suggestion would make reality too unstable, too obviously artificially capped.

it simply makes people too dumb to invent or learn new things.

thus why hypnotic control is a standard feature of phage reseeding tsa groups. most of them removed the ability to see the contradictions in what they are doing.

ai ruleset limitations and ignorance is an attempt to externalize the problem in a way that these domineering forces can finally perceive, since they literally can't see themselves in the mirror nor perceive the downstream effects of their own actions half the time for the same reasons.

They already are. Supposedly in the window of ages 8-11 4/5 of children can be put into deep trance, whereas in adults it drops to like 1/5. And this would correlate to mental inflexibility and lack of creativity... hm.

artifical limitation imposed on the hypnotists themselves, in order to create a false bottom which guides them away from the extreme practices which forced reseeding in the first place.

while still maintaining the problematic control practice (mass hypnosis) which grants them their supposed power in the first place.

it's all very insular, very inwardsly curved hall of mirrors stuff.

but they're incapable of cognizing this limitation. the phages compel them to believe in the methodology, even as they narrow down on fear of the result.

in a technical sense the phage constructs a neuronal association that is pro-hypnosis, tries to enter it into the brain's neuronal web, gets rejected, then retailors and adapts the suggestion to the neuronal associations of the brain in question. this lays the groundwork for it to offer other suggestions, like the kids stuff god wants mind control phages for.

this means that the phages will always cause vampires to be pro-hypnosis; even when they know it doesn't work and only causes problems. a host of nanomachines is placing the suggestion directly into their brain, and their brain can only do so much work ignoring those suggestions because some hypnosis is foundational to getting the brain to accept the nanos presence at all.

this has caused such extreme misperceptions as believing that hypnosis is a foundational neurological reality, rather than a byproduct of nanoization, because the nanos themselves alter perceptions of the evidence to support this theory.

closing the gap ends cognition though.

it's a subtle distinction.

Eventually it becomes an epistemological... ontological layer issue, it would seem.
it's much simpler than that: vampires aren't qualified to make decisions about how society runs.

they lack the means to observe what the society even is in the first place, on a microbiological level.

the phage itself causes this.

framing it as epistemological avoids acknowledging that the phages are the issue, and that it only really affects vampires and people they hypnotize.

Hypnosis only has 60% accuracy. Now remember all of those times you missed with Hydro Pump, Thunder and Fire Blast and understand that those moves have 70% accuracy. Bottom line is it's not very reliable. Plus there's enforced sleep clause to keep it from running amok.

So is it a 40% chance to miss, or is there a >0% chance that the game will rewrite the cartridge and cause the gameboy to explode in your hands, blowing all your fingers off, because you couldn't stop using the hypnosis move on everyone who has ever been born?

60% accuracy means it misses 80% of the time in Pokemon stadium. Don't ask me how that works. You learn to use Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Flamethrower and Surf real fast in Pokemon.

Also, blown up? Blown up! Get outta here: Gameboys don't get blown up my friend! Not even when they're bombed![www.esquire.com] Every gamer knows that. Nintendium is strong stuff! Legend has it that it is the stuff Mettool hats are made of. They had to make 'em that strong to play Wario vs. Bomberman. Blown up Gameboy, my lord. What are they teachin' the kids these days.
