That's very likely the case. If they did have aliens or alien technology they would hide it someplace not known by the public.

I think today Area 51 is primarily a skunkworks used to test prototype tech and weapons by defense industry corps like Lockheed Martin.

However you occasionally still hear interesting creepy pastas from around Area 51. Like the "M Cave" found by the lost hiker Kenny Veach. There are also stories about people watching crazy stuff in the sky around Area 51 but that could just be experimental aircraft.

Bill Clinton said he sent agents to Area 51 to find out what was going on there, and they said it was related to stealth technology, like the stealth tech on our B2 bombers.

I lived in Las Vegas at the time, most of the locals just thought it was silly.
