this is the world we live in today, crime isn't being punished anymore
I seen a teenager on his bmx bike making his rounds shoplifting at both the dollar store and local pharmacy ,he was stealing candy bars and chips, the cashier at the dollar store and
pharmacy seen him committing his crimes , but could do nothing, there not aloud to hold them and the police stopped arresting them here in Canada.Ottawa

This was when I was getting drinks for myself and a neighbour,I yelled at him in the parking lot that his crimes would catch up with him, he didn't even run off on his bike and circled in front of the dollar store parking lot after his crimes

Did you walk up to him and ask him if you wanted to get job with your firm craigsters?

Plus that's awesome if he took all the chips and candy bars, maybe he'll be dead by 40.

Being serious, though, I imagine that the police have much worse things to deal with these days than a kid stealing some junk food in a small store. As bad as it may seem, I assure you that it’s much worse here. Machete crimes, stabbings, crossbow attacks etc are starting to feel normal here. I’m constantly hearing about it on the news. When things like this are happening, I’m pretty sure that the police (especially as many police stations are understaffed and underfunded) can’t really spare time to worry about petty crimes.
Caning on the courthouse steps.
that is weird...

here you would be allowed to make a citycens arrest (grab him and hold him)
and he would be made to pay 180 euro fine (to be recieved by the store as compensation) + the cost of the products he stole to the stores he stole from.
- if he stole from multiple stores than it is 180 euro per store he stole from..
- but stealing from the same store multiple times can only get you 1 fine (if you get a fine than steal again.. you can get another but if they only hold you after the 10th time.. they cannot retroactively give you 10 fines)

*he would not go to jail for is is a misdemenor

that there are people who give 0 f.. and when I grapple or speak to them are like "what do you care you don't own the store are you" and "you better watch behind you now.. my friends will hunt you down"

basicly they can easely be turned down a peg.. but most people are just to easely scared away with them putting up a mouth..

I was still raised with a spanking.. (I will do the same with my kids f the lawchange in that)
and well social control (any adult responseble to keep everybody else in check)
is essential.. I don't like poilicestate... I prefer the soft social control power...
but people so rarely still step out in cases that are not theirs.. and have this weird "let the autorities handle it" which leads to a highly unpleasant society.. and overworked police that cannot even handle 1% of cases..

next time.. not yell.. jump in front of his bike.. and hold it between your legs (so he cannot move... sure he may jump off the bike and run.. well than you got a bike that he likely wants back.. hand that bike to the store.. if he comes asking for it.. he can pay for what he stole...
if he send police... same story..
-or it may lead to a proper confrontation..

I mean oh I see a person steal.. lets walk away get the mallcop/call police IDIOTIC
you grab that bozo yourself... THAN wave them over to take him off your hands..

and well shoplifting has gotten better when stores could tag these 180 euro fines.

in the past the issue was.. as a store you had to hold the shoplifter that ment 2 or 3 man paid staff guarding him for like an hour before the police came..
than he was written up but due being a minor.. they would get a notification only or like a 12 euro fine.. that the store gained nothing off..
=>
thus you would loose your product AND a lot of expensive labourtime (say 20 euro a staffmember per hour x 3)

ever since the police has introduced the 180 euro + what you stole.. to be paid BEFORE release.. to the store.. grabbing them and waiting that hour has become a lot more lucrative to stores...

I can encourage you to have your nation to install that same law.
shoplifting will remain a misdemeneor (fine only) as long as it is under 1000 euro in value
(above 1000 euro it will be theft which is a crime)
but if found out.. (it is advised to have shopcams for evidence).. thats pay what you stole + 180 euro.. aka a very expensive candybar.
-> if it is a minor.. that cannot pay.. than their parents will be called told to come and pay for them before release..

Begging is pretty much stealing, being a rich ________ and telling people that can't have a slice of pizza or play a free game and being told to get a job when there is none, when then going to gun shows when the tie comes off after the media show, is the poor dumb bastard who is the real thief.

I feel bad that you have to see craigster, but that kid is dumb cause the rest of the world is the same.

Everyone has stolen something from a store. Some people steal even today from the government budget. Times are harsh today. But what I can say is to be careful because it can get highly addictive and a thrill. Then that is a problem and spiral downwards and towards jail if it becomes a professional trait

When Trump is making deals and offering immunity to convicted sex traffickers who destroyed countless lives in exchange for their silence about him being on Epstein list then what would you expect from the rest of judicial system.

Oh wow that's quite a story. Well my crimes are really petty stories. Stole a cigarette pack once and it was really too easy and it was their own fault for being so easy. So I kept stealing until they noticed something is missing. And I got caught on the sixteen time stealing them and got confronted by security. Thank God I was a fast runner, never could have catch me on the street I run like a torpedo those days. Of course I never went back there again and subsequently stopped smoking the damn cigarettes.
