the us uses cotton because it lost economic independence in the 18th century due to cotton trading norms. essentially it didn't last a full generation before it was under uk control again.

the simple realities of burning cotton, or any other cloth, leads to a lot of very problematic chemical processes that go into the us dollar. to try and make them impossible to burn except by the government, for instance.

euronotes are made of pure cotton.

guilder notes were also mostly cotton but with other fibers muxed in it made them feel slighly better

There are many places where you can drive for hours without passing a single house, person or gas station.

Also, we have national parks bigger than most countries.

I mean, we are, have you seen our EPA?(Environment protection Agency) Also most logging is done through farmed area, where tree were grown very specifically to be chopped down or in area marked by disease where it's actually symbiotic to cut them down and present disease spread. And hell even if we sucked at it, it's always better to use LESS chemical synthetic in something easily burned and trashed instead of something that is easier to counterfeit, harder to track, and more damaging to live around it.
