Eurocrats Lament ‘Juggernaut Trump
Eurocrats Lament ‘Juggernaut Trump’ Rolled Brussels in ‘Disaster’ Trade Deal.

In the hours following the Sunday announcement of the landmark trade deal agreed to by the United States and the European Union, a stinging reality began to sink in across the Old Continent: Brussels blinked, and the EU leadership had been utterly routed by President Donald Trump and his White House.

Threats of counter tariffs and “trade bazookas” ultimately came to nought on Sunday as a noticeably dispirited EU chief Ursula von der Leyen sat beside President Trump at his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland to announce the agreement, which saw Europe commit to purchasing $750 billion in American energy, invest a further $600 billion in U.S. based businesses, and spend “hundreds of billions of dollars” on military equipment.

Europe wanted to get into a pissing match with the US, they wanted to act tough because leaders like Macron didn't like Trump on a personal level. Well, being the ones who hold all the cards, it's nice to have someone finally willing to play them.

And if more nations leave the EU, it means they'll have the opportunity to trade on better terms, which they wouldn't have to do if the EU hadn't shown how incompetent it's leadership is.

Sucks for Europe, probably more countries will want to leave now. Sucks for America too, these taxes are costing you guys $20 billion each month.
Somehow the US economy is improving. I can't explain it. Oh wait, the election... must have been it.

So you're saying that the $65/month tax is fixing the economy? Well that's great but it sucks for everyone who can't afford it.
Have not heard, even the datacenters I visit frequently switched off CNN in favor of Fox right after the election. Same in the office, zero complaints.

Agreed.

I see this trade deal with the EU as another win for the United States.

Trump is effectively using tariffs as leverage to negotiate great deals (fair deals) for the United States.

Big government will do that. The United States hasn't balanced the budget in a quarter century.

The trade war between the U.S.A. and the E.U. is inconsequential and quite frankly boring when it's southeast asians who hold all of the cards by manufacture everything. It is like watching an inconsequential sissy-slap fight, and personally I think it'd be better if the western powers united because, quite frankly, none of the western nations independently have the manpower to compete. The U.S.A. used to get by through innovation such as the airplane, television broadcasts, personal computers, telephones 'n such but it seems all of the innovation has dried up and it squandered its advantage by teaching the Chinese how to make its inventions and let them pull ahead to the point where they are now better at it. With over 1.4 billion people, China's enough of a juggernaut by itself that the population of Europe and the U.S.A. combined don't match it, but an alliance could at least be close enough to be a rival force. Neither alone has the manpower to achieve it.

Chinese hegemony is on the way as things stand. It's hard enough to engineer a novel grill scrubber using solely domestic parts, and that doesn't even really have any moving parts or electronics.

Result will be that US citizens will pay higher price on EU imported products.15% is highly unfair tax, because EU has something like 2% on US products.
Steel still has +50%.

Germany will likely exit EU first though, then Netherlands next.

Your current president is adding even more to the national debt and he's a dirty diddler 🙂

hmm cheaper and low-quality is not better. Disposability will drown us in our own trash far faster then any fossil fuel nonsense...

Zero tariffs on some strategic goods like aircraft, chemicals, and agricultural products.

But yeah, the EU companies will have to eat the cost of the tariff. Or expect reduced demand.

Yep, Trump's bill will add $3.4 trillion into debt.

Yeah, EU has been incredibly fair to the US, whereas Trump is acting hostile all the time and trying to extort countries, at the expense of American consumers.
