Age verification will be the end of anonymity
The Online Safety Act being rolled out in the UK is a precedent for governments and corporations to have more control over the internet. Sure, true anonymity hasn't really existed but at least you didn't have to verify your ID to browse any website, which could be a real thing in the future if the public remains complacent to all of this. And don't think a VPN will bypass this because they're already considering banning VPNs as well.

Society just seems to continue getting worse and worse.

Data collecting companies rejoicing like never before.
Good.

Maybe people will behave.

Two generations of kids with no manners is plenty enough.
I hope it's just for new accounts. My main issue isnt the info itself but who gets their hands on it. I don't want YouTube for example being an American company making money off my ID data.
we already know looking at the uk, it'll be used to censor politics and news
So if they wanna know your age for the UK and Australia, What about people from other countries?

Like do i need to get my ID out for various web sites? (I'm in NZ)

Reading this and imagining it pisses me off so bad.

Yep. We all knew this was coming.
There will always be sites out there to circumvent it but generally the mainstream internet is screwed in terms of anonymity. The only saving grace is that maybe services that take credit card payments will just use the credit card as proof of your age rather than requiring an ID (supposedly Youtube is planning on doing this).

The worst part is all these retarded companies are often the ones processing/saving your ID information. Not only do these companies not give a ♥♥♥♥ about your privacy, but they also don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about securing your private data. Yo you can literally guarantee your ID will be involved in a data leak.
Mmeh.

I will not comply. I don't comply with the arbitrary restrictions on Windows and I won't comply with verification nonsense. I'll just use workarounds, like I do for everything else.
You're completely right. I was in an 18+ discord server and they required you to submit a picture of your ID to prove you're 18+. I left immediately

I'm okay with FACEIT requiring ID and stuff but everything else is privacy violation.
Privacy Violation. When there is a data breech all your private infos are open to find. Every site which asks me for that will get deleted. These corpos are slowly killing themselves
You were never really anonymous on the internet. The powers that be can track you all they want, anyone who knows how, with the resources, can't really be stopped.

All they're doing now is making it a bit easier to match your location data to a photo.

I'm kind of with Jim though. I think it sucks, but simultaneously, it'll get rid of all the trolls. So... kind of a win.

Freedom only exists if you agree with your government. That's true of any country, it's just worse in some than it is in others.

The Internet was it's own worst enemy. Bad behaviour demanded government attention. It now only remains to be seen how far they will go.

The worst trend, in my opinion, is parents thinking that the Internet is suitable for kids. There's the death of it right there!

Was it only that specific server?

Yes.
dunno if anyone's mentioned this in OT already but youtube's just begun rolling out an ai-based age verification. it will estimate your age based on the content you watch. and if it wrongfully detects you as being a minor, guess what? you'll need to give them your credit card or government id to get it fixed 🤪
