the point of alcoholics anonymous is to take susceptible, impressionable people (long term alcoholics who have lost control over most inhibition processes) and form them into a knowable labor brigade so that nobody else can.

the leadership's reward for doing so is a cult named alcoholics anonymous.

for a few decades they were outspending the catholic church in order to have AA references inserted into media (the church was scaling back media investment during this time.)

well if you try to do that without backing someone will take control of your circle of friends and try to initiate you into a cult.
