Why would it be a war crime to poison humans through chemical warfare, but it's totally normal to do this to unwanted animals (pest control)?

Good question.

I think using poison, including herbicides and insecticides is foolish and largely wrong.

It doesn't make sense to distribute a known poison, when eventually it works its way into the water or dirt, and then humans. Not to mention that it's cruel.
In war, there are no rules.

I never understood 'rules of war', and 'war crimes'.

If you're following war rules, and guidelines, it's not a real war , is it?

It's a larp.

Just saying.
Anthrocentric chauvinism is the biggest delusion in this spiral arm of the galaxy.

Stupid, smelly humans are not better than any other complex mammal, and they certainly aren't somehow apart from the natural biosphere.
