If you publicize a really stupid idea...
...is it fair to delete your entire social media presence when the backwash starts or is the right thing to do to face the music and accept you deserve this?

no i think it is funnier when they double down on their terrible idea or opinion and dig themselves into an even deeper hole. then they are doomed to be forever be associated with such things.

Either option is better than the authorities actively protecting the stupid idea from any and all criticism.

Just look at how that backfired in 2020.
