Home Alone films ranked
I know its not Christmas, but I feel like I want to rank the films because I grew up with Home Alone.
Its one of those Christmas films (Like Nativity) that has had a big struggle.

(6- Worst 1- Best)

1- Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)
2- Home Alone (1990)
3- Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House (2002)
4- Home Alone: The Holiday Heist (2012)
5- Home Sweet Home Alone (2021)
6- Home Alone 3 (1997)

I've heard an R-rated version of Home Alone is stuck in development.
That could be a great idea, however its taken too long to make that it may not be worth it.
There's 6 home alones? What the hell? I think the second movie is the best, and the first one is the second best. The only other one I knew about was I think the third where the kid had a pet bird, and it wasn't even the same kid, it's another kid who I hated way more and was honestly hoping the criminals would... maybe not kill him, but rough him up pretty bad.

Yes, there were 6 Home Alone films from 1990-2021.

Home Alones 4 and 5 were released straight to TV and DVD, and Home Sweet Home Alone was released on Disney+.

I only watched 1+2, I like them both
I love Home Alone 1 and 2!
Home Alone 3, 4, 5 and 6 felt like someone sticking their middle finger up at me.

There is only Home Alone, rest is garbage.
The Home Alone series reminds me of what Bob Gale or Robert Zemeckis had to say in regards to a possible 4th BTTF film, in that the 3rd was the perfect ending, and there was no need to give in to corporate pressure by studios, in lieu of artistic creativity, and effectively bastardize the franchise by the mere existence of a 4th film, that might not/would not be as good as the other three. Of course, this is paraphrased.

Similarly, the 1st and 2nd were wonderful films, directed by Chris Columbus, written by the late John Hughes, an ensemble cast, and so forth. However, already by the 3rd film, which involved largely different people, it really begs you ask, 'Why would they make another?', and save for John Hughes writing, and Raja Gosnell directing, who had previously edited the other two films, it feels more like a standalone film, that merely had the Home Alone logo slapped onto it. John Hughes manages to make the film charming, while Raja Gosnell displays early signs of what would later become his streak of largely successful comedy films from '99 to '13, so although not as good, as the previous two, it's mostly passable.

Already, Home Alone 3 leaves enough of a mildly sour and bitter aftertaste to make any viewer question why they watched it in comparison to the first two, but of course, that isn't enough, as we make our way to the 4th and 5th entries, which save for the 4th being directed by the late Rod Daniel, behind Teen Wolf, K-9, and Beethoven's 2nd, and the 5th being directed by Peter Hewitt of Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, is effectively the weak link in the chain. Admittedly, I've never seen the duo, so perhaps I'm unjustifiably critical of the two, but then again, they're straight-to-dvd/made-for-tv films, so in all honesty they probably are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, viewing experiences that you're better off never even hearing about, let alone watch.

Last but not least, you make your way to the 6th Home Alone film, Home Sweet Home Alone, having been released onto Disney+, since Disney had bought Fox back in 2018 or whatever and gained the rights through that. Interestingly enough on a side note, these films that are being released onto streaming services as exclusives, whether it be Netflix films, or Disney+ films, or whatever, can be viewed as the modern equivalent of the aforementioned straight-to-dvd or made-for-tv films, but just at a higher budget and level of quality. However, just because they're at a grander level, doesn't mean they're any better, save for a few Netflix originals. This 6th entry proves to follow the current, as it is a steaming pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, inferior to the 3rd film, and better than the 4th and 5th films only because the 4th and 5th were just that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥.

My final professional review?

1 - Home Alone
2 - Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
3 - Home Alone 3
4 - Home Sweet Home Alone
5 - Home Alone 4
6 - Home Alone: The Holiday Heist

Note that the 1st and 2nd films are more or less on par, and only differentiated by 1 & 2 merely for the sake of ranking them, and similarly, Home Alone 4 and Home Alone: The Holiday Heist are on par, deserving of a spot lower than 6. Once more, only by the sheer matter of ranking, do they achieve the respective rankings of 5 and 6.
