It's strange to think that at some point in time there was always that one poor human who was the first to try the delicious looking berries that kill you horrifically. Also why the hell do plants make poisonous fruit? Make that make sense? I swear there's nothing for humans to eat in the wild, we lived on bugs, mouse meat and wheat right up until modern civilisation.
People use to eat mummy dust and use leech to treat illness. Opium tincture for wonder drug.
There are a lot of test they can do. There is the touch test. They rub it in their skin and if there is no reaction they try the “chew but don’t swallow test”. They wait a few hours and if no reaction then they will swallow a very very small amount. They wait for a while and if still nothing then they will eat it.
