theres this really cool chart where you can see the overall IMDB ratings of peoples for every simpsons episode from season 1-34. you can also see where the quality starts to wane. the first 10 seasons are almost universally green, and it slowly becomes generally less well received after that.
the lowest rated episodes are:
season 23, episode 22
season 33, episode 1
Remember the episode when one of Marge's sisters came out of the closet, and tried to marry a female professional golf player that turned out to be a man who was pretending to be a woman so he could beat women at golf? Crazy times.
People say seasons 2-10 are the best, but I think the best is really like 3-7. 8 and 9 have some stinkers, and 10 is like 50-60% stinker.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LISA
- season 6 episode 3 "another simpsons clip show". its a breather episode mostly comprised of clips from past episodes, so it is easy to see why it is low rated. such episodes usually existed to give the animators more time to work on new episodes.
- season 9 episode 2 "the principal and the pauper". this is the "principal skinner is a fraud" episode, and aye it is generally not well liked.
- season 9 episode 11 "reality bites" is actually the lowest rated episode of the first 10 seasons. marge becomes a realtor and works with lionel hutz (this is also the last time lionel hutz would speak in an episode, as phil hartman died 5 months later).
But honestly no one remembers because it probably happened after everyone stopped watching and it became a zombie franchise. I'm still not sure if its still running or not.
Most recent good one i saw: Homer living in the attic or something
the treehouse of horror episodes are still great even in the new seasons. they are still disturbing and imaginative. even if peoples dislike the new seasons of the simpsons (which is fair, i do not like them much either) i will always recommend they still watch the new treehouse episodes.
