Online Safety Act in the UK - Good or nah?
So I have a lot of friends from UK (I do not live in the UK myself) and they have told me how bothersome this new addition is. It affects so many platforms, and I'm afraid that this will extend even outside the UK. The internet that we know today might cease to exist and become super highly restricted. Do you believe it's a good thing or a bad thing? What is your take on this entire story? Idk personally, I'm a huge fan of NSFW AI-chats like https://crushon.ai, and I have a feeling things like these are the first ones to get targeted by it.

Anyone in support of that is automatically discredited. It's that simple.

It's going to be everywhere eventually and it's only the beginning.

Digital ID will be the new normal.

Cartoon panel I saw: Politician with "Loss of Freedom" package on counter.

Salesperson: How would you like this wrapped?

Two kinds of wrapping paper behind him -- "For the Children" and "For National Security".

I do have a feeling that you're right about it ending up being everywhere...but maybe things will change in the meantime? Who knows what the future reserves after all

I'm not a youngster, which I believe is why this act was brought in, so I've not noticed any change to the usual websites that I use. I am from the UK.

I abide by rules/laws in everyday life, but I think it's too early to say if it's a good thing or bad. So far, it has not affected me so I have no opinion.

As I posted in another thread, my only concern is security, more importantly, possible security breaches.

Do you mind to elaborate the security concerns?

Sure. We recently had a breach in security of main high street stores in the UK, hundreds or thousands of customers information was stolen, home addresses, bank details, etc. the stores denied that to begin with, later admitting it, I find that disgusting, any customer that has their details stolen needs to know ASAP, so they can take the necessary steps to secure those details or change them. Finding out weeks or months later is shocking.

Not admitting to it is crazy bro. That's the last thing you want to hide from people - that they personal information got stolen. I have no idea what they were thinking

Just looking at the name I can already tell it's bad. I reckon it either doesn't do anything or targets random things to annoy people.

You mean supporting the online safety act?
C1REX 5 Aug @ 7:03am
Scanning your face and ID to access normal websites is absurd.
It will annoy adults and will redirect young people to actually illegal, dark websites where they don't care about following law and scanning IDs anyway.

So it will likely do the opposite what they say it suppose to do.

How are you going to survive?

hmmm, it might lead to people accessing darker parts of the web indeed. I mean, people already do it, right? I can imagine the amount increasing in the future

So basically most people over 40 that have children and most people over 50 that barely know or care about computers or phones?

You would be surprised with how many people do not mind these measures...

I even remember people in this website agreeing to measures such as banning social media on people below 16 and allowing parents to geolocalize their kids at all times and allowing them to see their conversations, so I would not be surprised to anyone here fully agreeing to that "measure" discussed here...

People that did not grow up with phones and/or internet and are not fully adapted to the modern times yet or people with very tradicional values are incredibly easy to manipulate, specially on this matter 🤔

After all, since most of these people consider that these "measures" do not affect them that much and they consider all type of "new" technology to be bad, oh and that minors will be benefited by this "measure", they have no problem with this 🤷‍♀️

For a reason I try to not take any grampa opinión about the modern world seriously 🤔
